2024 Chargers Draft Superthread - Prospect Discussion - Draft Has Started

One issue is Chargers already have KA, Palmer and QJ (who has major potential that may just need better coaching), plus davis...(aasuming MW is gone)....we can add another speed WR after the first round......

Chargers have zero starting quality TE's on roster.....and have not since Gates..... Everett is a good #2..... Henry also was a solid #2...... (i know they started for Chargers but only because we lacked a true great TE......)

Bowers also has a physical toughness, that this offense NEEDS!.....his energy is contagious!

There are some mocks that have him being taken before Chargers pick.....

Nabors makes plays but scares me because after every freaking play he is jawing and taunting everyone...... maybe he is a headcase,..... and not a team player....

my guess is Harbaugh will have 2 TE's on field most of the time, so only 2 WR's are needed or one if we have FB and RB.... Bowers can also play FB.....or big RB.... having a 75 yard TD run in college on a sweep....

I don't think we should base our decisions in a top 5 pick based around next year's roster make up. In 2025 we may have no WR on the roster worth a damn.

Herbert NEEDS receivers. Pass catchers. Last year we thought there were an abundance.
MW, KA, Palmer, Q, Everett, Ekeler among others. Didn't go well.
2 or 3 really good ones all year, ideally if we want our star QB to shine.
This draft features 4 really good ones at top of rd 1.
MHJ, Bowers, Odunze, Nabers. I'll take MHJ or Bowers, thank you.

Herbert NEEDS pass protection and a running game.

Injuries since high school:

1. Broken leg his junior year of high school.
2. Broken collarbone in 2017, his sophomore year of college. Missed five games.
3. Fractured rib cartilage from Week 2 through the rest of the season in 2022 (most quarterbacks would have missed games with that). Had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder after the season.
4. Two broken fingers this past season. Missed four games after breaking his right index finger.

Yep... Even Harbaugh pointed out as it being paramount to protect Herbert! Staley put everything on Herbert to be Superman with a subpar oline and dreadful running game!

Imagine using common sense and giving Herbert a great oline & running game?! Well nevermind imagining it, we finally have a head coach & GM with common sense that is about to do exactly that!

Im all over the 3. Bowers...Nabers....Rome. But the fit? With Harbaugh? And what i expect with Roman? If i had to put money on it...i think he is high on the board. And yes i too would like to move back and get him...but if i wanted him that bad? He has Aiyuks hands and routes...he has Deebos YAC...and blasts guys like Henry....and does everything Kittle does. You put all those players names together? You get Doubletake.

I would be thrilled to see Harbaugh and Hortiz select a guard fifth overall if there were a Quenton Nelson or Zack Martin in this draft. There isn't one of those, though. If we draft a right tackle in the first round we can still address the center and guard later. Or perhaps we'll get a veteran to handle center or guard in free agency.

The OG you may see Hortiz & Harbaugh select later in the draft is Z. Zinter who trust me is a great OG prospect if he can overcome his injury!

Not gonna lie...when i watch the Nabers film...i see a lot of body catches. He has made a ton of nice catches etc...but so many of his catches were with his body. Not calling him a QJ type...but nobody went up and got the ball and put up contested numbers like Rome did. I love both Rome and Nabers...but i think Bowers or Rome with Herbert is perfection. Herbert is baked into my takes on these guys. Rome does what MIke does and Keenan does. With way more pace.

if you put on the tape of him at lsu, the routes he had in his route tree he can run very well, but when he was asked to run routes that weren't in his tree you could see the lacking of the footwork, and just how uncrisp it was, that can be fixed with coaching. but im not inlove with him, he fast no doubt, but he's kinda like odell to me. hes gonna be explosive and fast and make crazy catches, but you're also gonna get the same antics, and you're gonna be drafting a wr in the top 5 with a limited route tree. to me the only wr i take at 5 is mhj, if we trade down, its him or rome, ima take rome, bigger, runs in the 4.3s, great route tree, makes contested catches, and was used as a swiss army knife. my vote on wr in the top 10 is MHJ, Rome, Nabers in that order

I don't think anyone doubts that Herbert doesn't need a really good pass catcher out of this draft.
And I don't think the position really matters, looking at stats from his San Francisco teams.

They can go with a tight end and receiver getting most of the work, or two wide receivers.
However, 3 excellent pass catchers is one too many ...... given the amount of times they'll run the ball.

I don't see them double dipping until mid to late day 3.

I really can't see them drafting a WR in the first again this year. I'm high on Bowers and I'd be pleased if they took him at 5. I'm still a fan of having a strong OL and I'd be fine if they took Alt. I'd be happy as a clam if they could get the Center from the Ducks in the second. I fear Nabors and his attitude in the NFL. I expect he'll have a fair amount of suspensions.

Agree he needs protection.
#4 had nothing to do with protection though. INT return he broke his first finger in a defenders facemask when getting blocked.
Index finger he hit the helmet of a DL after throwing the ball

That's obvious. Just pointed out he's had multiple injuries over the years. A lack of protection will obviously increase his injury risk.

Understand but the protection is more so he has time to throw and get hit less in the pocket.
He can get hurt on a scramble.
