I think he's a solid prospect but he's not even the clear cut #1 OT in this class, so yeah, I like him, but not enough to put him next to the players you mentioned above...and with all the OTs available in this draft, what exactly sets him apart enough to pick him 5th overall when you can get someone like Kingsley Suamataia in the late 1st early second round?

There will be 4 QBs taken in top 14 picks.
And then 2 QBs selected in Rd 2.
        Book it.

U never know...some GM in the hot seat may see his targeted QB sitting right there @#5, and dials up Trader Joe to make a crazy offer...

Alt is the #1 OT. He's good all around. Good run blocker. Good pass blocker. The others have deficiencies in either their run blocking (Fashanu) or pass blocking (Fuaga). Of course none of them is as deficient as Pipkins. Kingsly isn't nearly as good as Alt... that's why he gets mocked in the 2nd round. IMO, Alt is BPA @#5.

Harbaugh/Hortiz will build the team to beat the Chiefs... they've both said that. Their best chance is to be balanced on offense and play good/great defense. That's why Roman and Minter were brought on. A first-round WR would be less utilized in Roman's offense than an OT. We spent a 1st round pick on WR last year. We have one of the most productive WR's in football in Keenan. Joshua Palmer has been under-used. Harbaugh has said he likes our WR group. It is the strongest group on the team. They will find a TE in the middle rounds. Most of the league's best TE were found in the middle rounds. It can be done. We might even pick up a TE in free agency... depending on how much cap space we create.
              Protect the QB
              Run the ball
              Play great defense

Ok we are taking a tackle Alt at 5 to protect the Quarterback. Let’s see how it works out. Great.

and then we will get a Brock Bowers to Mahomes Book it.

The thing is that Alt is not the unanimous #1 OT and it's a very strong OT class, neither NFL teams or the NFL experts out agree that he's the clear cut #1 guy, that lack of consensus and having watched him play give me pause, when you have a guy that is clearly dominant and has zero holes in his game all the experts line up behind him as the clear cut #1 and it's almost clear and obvious that he's the top guy, to me that is not Alt...

my only concern with Alt and it's not even much of an issue because it's fixable with time and hard work, I think that he needs to get a lot stronger, for such a massive guy he plays with too much finesse for my taste, looking at Alt I feel like he is still a year or two away from being the best version of himself, he still looks like he hasn't finished growing into his body, so while I think he's a fantastic prospect I don't think he's the plug and play player that everyone is saying he is, he lacks the kind of power in his game that I would like to see in a #1 OT top 5 pick type of guy...

I know but if you look at the oline play last year Herbert seemed to have very little time in the pocket and seemed to always have to rush his throws! We got to do something to improve or oline!

in this draft class it makes not sense to NONE to draft an OT with the 5th pick...there are so many solid OTs that can be had after a trade down, some that wouldn't have to switch positions, and Alt has already publicly stated that he wants to be a LT, and we won't even get into the emergency issues on the roster that need immediate attention because as of right now we have two OTs signed thru 2025 once the chargers pick up the option on Slater, which they will...

Also, it should be noted that Joe Hortiz was with the Ravens when they signed Foster Sarrell as an UDRFA out of Stanford, we kind of poached Foster before the Ravens could put him on their practice squad a couple of years ago, and out of the 5-6 ERFA we had one which was 1000% going to be brought back was Dicker...guess who the other guy was that the chargers just fucking tendered, it was Foster Sarrell...so while that doesn't mean that the chargers won't draft an OT in a draft with some really good ones, it does mean that we already have 3 OTs with some NFL starting experience on the roster, I think we need to be realistic about what the prudent use of that 5th overall pick is, because to me a guy that loves picking O-line high in the draft, this is NOT the year to stick and pick and if they do, then use the pick on a position where the player is needed to contribute immediately, IDK, like maybe a fucking TE or an Edge or a fucking CB?

I like Alt, but the draft crush bullshit that's going around is fucking absurd, I think Alt needs to get stronger to maximize his potential, to me he's still a year maybe two away from being the player that some people around here envision that he already is...

we've already done a LOT to improve our O-line, it's called getting a fucking real NFL caliber coach and one of the best minds on how to use offensive linemen in Roman, I know you guys think he's a POS that will limit herbert but he's proven in his understanding of how to maximize O-line play...we already have some good pieces on the line, we need a center that we abso-fucking-lutely need! the same exact group of players we already have are going to play at a much higher level than last year, and they will also be put in better positions to have success...how about we focus on what is glaring that is needed and have a little bit of faith that these coaches are going to get more out of our O-line group than what even they though they were capable of getting...Yes, they should still draft at least two O-linemen in this draft preferably in the top 100 depending on what they team gets back in trades for Mack or Bosa...

Fix the interior oline and a lot of our problems go away.
