So in that sense, his value is immense to us. In fact I would say it's enough to put him as the top ranked player FOR US and what we are trying to accomplish.

    Bring on the maulers.
Yeah, and I agree. They want a mauler. Fuaga is also a mauler. We can talk all day about these players but neither are BPA at 5 as a RT. They just aren’t.

What I’m saying is that from a strictly BPA position, I’m not seeing Latham as the 5th best player in this draft.
So yes, need is coming into this.

The FO have a need. And like you said, they have a need for a nasty, monster of a man that will help change the tone/culture of this team and help the run game, and protect JH. Perfect fit, perfect value, perfect need.

Latham will be a really good RT no matter where he goes. And if it’s the Chargers….so be it..

We are not picking #5. The only way we stay is if MHJ is there. Is Arizona that dumb? We will find out.
My preference is trade down with Vikes and at #11 I would love a CB or DL ( Arnold or Byron M ) than at 23 get your OL. Barton-J P-J, Mims, J. Morgan or Guyton.
Latham may be their guy but is he really that much better than others? Which is why they trade down. You can get Latham later. Who they trade with is the big ??
Rumors in Viking land is that they want to move up to #3 for Maye. If not they will stay where they are.
ALSO, we are all prediction what the GM will do but REMEMBER, this is his first as the big guy. He may have a little of his own flavor on things.

Its only one play, but it was the play that mattered and a loss to send Harbaugh to the Natty game.

No Latham will not be the BPA if drafted at 5. Prepare for a C and reach on all the draft grades lol

I get Latham is a mauler and they want a physical line but to take this player at 5 with potentially Harrison, Nabers, Bowers, Alt, the best 2 CBs Mitchell and Arnold , best DT Murphy all sitting there is a little hard to watch and will be questioned that is for sure. That is alot of talent and positions of real need like WR and CB to pass over.

This better not be a large lumpy Alabama lineman bust

Sims doesnt have a very good track record and frankly i take no value in his assessments. Still cant get over his Kellen Mond in his #1 QB in that draft. Granted it was the draft with Zach Wilosn, Jones and Lance but it also had Lawrence and Mond still went round 3 after Kyle Trask.

I have to admit...I'm a bit confused about all the hand wringing this morning about Latham. For years....DECADES we've complained about being such a weak, pitiful team up front. And now we have a chance to grab a guy that embodies all the things that Harbaugh wants, and we seem to be getting cold feet.

These "boring" picks are what help close out games in January as we trample over the enemy team's fatigued lines. I'm all for it.
We get it just a bit tough to swallow at 5 with all the talent on the board they will be passing over, not just the WRS but top CBs too. I think everyone is on board with a trade down for extra picks

Actually, yes. And im not talking about these amateur podcasters. Joel Klatt being the biggest, ...... has had Bowers to us the whole time. His last mock still had him going to us, and that was with the trade down but he hasnt mocked anybody else to us that ive seen.
I dont know how well he knows Jim Harbaugh but i know he does and he has interviewed him before and he says Bowers is a perfect fit for what Harbaugh likes to do with his TEs and he is a TE friendly guy.

Does he know any different? I dont know but i think he knows him better than Daniel Jeremiah who has been wrong the last 5 years with our first pick. Peter Shrager is just a sheep going with the flow.

What do we all say if they follow up Latham at 5 with Corum at 37? That would be back to back reaches while neglecting WR and CB, two positions of dire need.

I have also heard growing buzz that Harbaugh will do whatever it takes to get Corum here. I am not even sure he is the RB I want but I know definately not at 37.

One more thing about whether or not we draft Latham, Harbaugh and Minter spent a month analyzing/game planning that guy before the Rose Bowl Playoff. Whatever decision they make on him will be very well informed.

That's the thing about drafts, someone will always be passed over. We need a lot of help at a lot of positions or we wouldn't be picking this high. And it doesn't matter if WE don't think Player A or Player B is the best player on the board. It only matters what the JHs think. Because ultimately, it's their necks on the line if it doesn't work out. They have a vision and a plan in place to create that. It doesn't make a damn what we think about it. Let's roll these dice and get this party started already.

They also sent OL coach Devlin to work out wth him

                        Thanks for feedback
I mean, Klatt did a lot of Big 10 games with Harbaugh - he has talked to him a lot
Not much buzz about Bowers - that would be a surprise

As for Shrager - you are right, just going with the crowd - he doesn't know

Hortiz said he is picks BPA -- that wouldn't be Latham unless they have different scouting
