QJ on slants and deep passes .... he'll neither separate or fight for any of those plays.

It would be like a pitcher with a pitch he never intends to throw over the plate, but uses it as a change of pace.
If football, all the teams would be crowding the plate waiting for what you do best with QJ lined up at X.

This is the type of fantasies we go into for lethargic 1rst round picks that end up never baring fruit.

Jr. Seau vs. MarcusMcNeil / Gill Byrd to give it a face.

      Everyone would take Seau.

If you think someone is special, you take that player at #5; if not, trade down.

While I agree with your sentiment it will be years before this can be judged. There are "can't miss" prospects that bust and undrafted hall of famers. This is where we have to trust that the GM will find value and I'd rather give them more swings than less.

exactly!.... if an elite difference maker is there, you have to take him...... when Seau was still available during draft after the 4th pick was taken, i was chanting Seau...Seau....Seau.....and as I recall the Chargers surprisingly ran up immediately to submit the pick..... they did not wait the full 15 minutes like they usually do.....

another example: you dont trade away polomalu (who was an elite player in middle of first round...maybe fell because he was a safety) for 2 players who never amounted to anything......

after listening to that last Harbaugh vid.... hard pressed to see how he goes for anything save OT.... think he's preparing us,

will also add that Giants brought in Oline help, paving the way for WR
Tennessee brought in WR via FA, making LT the obvious priority
Atlanta has two first rounders @the tackle spot
the rumor outta Chi town is that Nabers 'n Caleb are buddies, and.... they brought in Keenan and could use an LT (not right)
and Jets brought in Tyron 'n Moses to clear the way for.... Bowers ??

and so, if Alt goes to Tennessee, and Fashanu to Chicago, that leaves you know who @11

Fuaga sure seems like the better fit for what Harbaugh/Roman wish to do, as he is the better run blocker, and unlike Alt, he doesn't get pushed back into the QB, as he is pretty good @stopping pass rushers in their tracks.... he gives his QB some real estate to work with, as opposed to Alt, whose defender is oft times collapsing the pocket @his behest.

@OG seems the candidates would be Beebe, Christian Haynes/Mahogany, and Zinter ?? my best guess is that if Zinter is still on the board @105, he would get the nod ??
5/11 Fuaga, 37 Kamari Lassiter, 40 Sinnott, 67 Bralen Trice, 69 Cedric Gray, 105 Jaylen Wright, 110 Braelon Allen, 140 Joe Milton, 181 Khristian Boyd, Tylan Grable, 225 Daijun Edwards, 253 Miyan Williams

will also add that it seems a bit shoddy if the Giants abandon ship and trade up for McCarthy, and as Jones had prolly the worst OL in the League, and not much in the way of WR.

they've brought in reinforcements along the Oline, and are lined up to take one of the top three wideouts, and which seems a more prudent path, given the monies they've invested in Jones ??

will be surprised if they dump Jones in favor of JJ, 'specially given the success rate of first round QBs, and that some pundits think McCarthy has a ways to go before he's all that.... ??

Solid reasoning Beach! I've had MHJ to Cards @#4... Nabers to Giants @#6... and Alt to Titans @#7 for some time now.

Except that... it could also be Quentin Jammer, or Gill Byrd and Marcus McNeill. Which option do you select then?

Most fans would rather have more good players (a better middle class) but it's the elite players that really make a difference. The teams with the most blue chip players tend to consistently be the best teams. So no way you pass up 1 blue chip for 2 good. The problem is the evaluation of blue chip is usually wrong otherwise we'd have no blue chip players after the first few picks of the draft. "Good" players and a good middle class can easily be filled in via veteran free agency but you don't have many opportunities to get blue chips. One thing that does hold true is in hindsight it's almost always best to go best player available regardless of need.

YES! Anyone who talks about QJ being an X receiver either doesn’t understand the concept of an X receiver or didn’t watch QJ play last year. He was atrocious as an X receiver. There’s no team in the league that would give us a 2024 second rounder for him right now. When you can say that about a rookie from the previous draft, it means they were bad.

Anytime they put QJ out wide just put him in single man press coverage and forget about him. No safety help. Now the defense is playing ten on ten. Arizona is probably the only team in the league with a worse receiving room. If we’re gonna put QJ and Palmer out there as our starting receivers, I don’t care how good Herbert is. I’d be running 7 and 8 man boxes against this offense is. It doesn’t matter how good your O-line is. When the box is stacked, it’s gonna be tough to run. And when your receivers can’t get open, eventually the D-line will get to the QB on passing plays. MHJ or Nabers changes the whole complexion of our receiving room.
