I am with BigBad that the Chargers need to give Herbert a playmaker - not just speed - but playmaker. That said, the line of scrimmages needs to be fixed. Maybe the OL is helped by coaching and for sure the DLine needs help as Bosa is probably gone, not sure who is left to pay DT - and with the new scheme, who the hell knows how Fox or Otito or Matlock will fit. Not to mention the LB -- so OL and Front 7
Fixing your OL is never bad strategy. Granted, its just not as fun as Brock Bowers
Aaron Donald is one. K.Williams is one.
I'm going to support whoever they pick.
I just have my own ideas about things.
I remember wanted Lamar Jackson and to trade Rivers who still had a ton of value to get at least a 1st Rd pick for him and more. I was roasted as not knowing anything about football.
I just thought he was a 1 of 1 talent. Actually a generational type player. Not these others that get called it but are just stars and comparable to other stars. That playmaker game changing QB was 1 of 1.
So I'm all for drafting the generational player. And I had him as my #1 player on that draft. And nobody could hear it.
Now you guys want to draft these so called generational players. Draft the best OT at #5 and help the entire offense.
Who has it better than us?

Slotted 5 could mean that 2 if not 3 of the QB class are gone as either Chicago trades out OR they jump ship from Fields. If the Bears stick with Fields and they stay put, then we are in prime trade down territory for a New York Giants OR Jets, Falcons, Vikings or even Denver deal (Denver is a bit deep for my taste). Every year we see these QB's rise up seemingly by week into the top 5 - 7 picks. So with Williams, Maye and Daniels set to go 1, 2, 3 then QB horny teams will be desperate to jump up and grab a riser like Nix, Penix or McCarthy. With a new GM, this might just be the year we trade back into the 8 - 12 range and score some prime early picks in return. Of course all of this is based on the assumption that the Cards take MH Jr.
So much fun coming our way and it's still 100 plus days away.
I think its semi-realistic too, as I can see teams potentially wanting to get in front of New York for a QB.

Some thoughts based on other's points here.
1. I would trade down if at all possible. I get the taking a slam dunk pick at 5 vs risking getting a less impactful player at 8 or 11, but this team has so many needs, if you can get one of Atlanta or Minnesota to trade up for Daniels or Penix, I would take the deal. There are studs at DT, Edge, CB, OT and other positions of need at that point. This is assuming the return comp is more than fair. The draft is too much of a crapshoot. Give yourself as many chances to hit as possible.
2. Bowers and Nabers only make sense to me this high if they are absolute scheme/personnel fits. Nabers is pretty good clone of Deebo. Super competitive, quick, YAC monster. But he probably needs to play inside and won't provide much in terms of deep shots (especially against better NFL corners/safeties). For Bowers, we need someone who will scheme in the tight end (like Ben Johnson did with LaPorta this year...or like Reid with Kelci) to make it worthwhile. I am also curios to see how he runs. If Bowers is a sub 4.45 guy, that makes him even more of a unicorn.
3. Get a football player...not just an athlete. The draft is littered with busts who were exceptional athletes, but unrefined in many technical aspects. You aren't getting away with that in the NFL...at any position. I 100% agree with needing to add speed to the roster, but make sure the guy can play. Give me another Keenan Allen over a John Ross any day.
