You have a qb with a rocket arm, stretch the damn field.
Bowers isn't going to do that for you.

If you want to trade Herbert and go with Stick: yeah, then select Bowers.
I can see several different options at 5, including Nabers, Bowers, Trade-down etc. But saying Herbert and Chargers cannot use Bowers is not at all valid imo.

Bowers runs a 4.5 40. He cannot be covered by LBs and most Safeties - which CB are you pulling off our WRs to cover him? He is elite in a generational do-it-all TE talent way. Great route runner, great rush blocker (for TE), great hands ... and if you want to ask about YAC ... nobody compares.

You are probably the only one who watches football who has either of those opinions. Puka was a huge part of the reason the Rams were in the game yesterday. He had nine receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown. I like Joshua Palmer, but seriously?

Yep, I do...we just had a bad offense this year...Mixed in with a horribly inconsistent defense.
Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

          I hope you're right, but I'm confident you're not.

Other prospects in play @ #5 that we are pretty much overlooking...

--Cooper DeJean. Combo DB. PFF #8. will test VERY high in Indy in RAS. Fleet fav. Fleet knows his shit.

--Dallas Turner. EDGE. Lightning fast. Walter Football Top 5. Charlie Campbell knows his shit too.

These are two chess pieces that would have exponential positive effect on our D.

I still see Jer'Zhan Newton 3T similarly, but on a trade down only. @ #5 is a little rich.
            We play modern Harball.

Agree, if Bowers is at the top of their list...they may be able to go back to 8 and still get him. They just have to do their homework there. But if they feel he wont, just pick him. Trading down is great but why miss out on a great player? We have zero TEs on our roster, excpet Smartt and he may not even be back with the new regime.....and he is nothing to speak of anyways. I think going back to 10 is risky.

We can say Kelce and Gronk werent first round picks but Bowers destroyed their college production in the best conference. Bowers bested Kelce's entire college career as a freshman.
              1. Mason Taylor TE LSU
              2. Quinshon Judkins RB Ohio st
              3. Kyle Kennard Edge So. Carolina

              4. CJ West DT Indiana
              5. Don'te Thornton WR Tennessee
              6. Zah Frazier CB UTSA
              6. Jarquez Hunter RB Auburn
              6. Jay Higgins LB Iowa

So unless someone is giving us a boatload of picks or just have us move down a spot or two and still get em well, get em when you can.
Any good NFL D can stop a single top player, no matter how good they are. There are too many different ways to stop them.

We need to keep a team around Herbert no matter who we pick. No matter who we draft, we need to keep/get players around that top player so that they can't double or triple them to death. I'm not saying we should not take a WR at the top of the draft (or Bowser), but if we gut the roster to get under the cap, and leave Herbert with no complimentary receivers, then it isn't going to help.

How many guys are at the top of the draft, and every draft guru says that this guy is a generational player? Use Bower as an example. The word generational talent is being tossed around. Remember a couple of years ago, Kyle Pitts was a generational player? What has he done? College is college, but every player has to step up vs the pros, no matter how good you think they are coming out. Every player on an NFL team is among the best players on their college teams, and the best in their respective conferences. Even the bottom of the roster guys.

I think Nabers and MH jr are among the best WR I have seen in years of following the draft. They still have to raise their games or NFL DB will still be able to stop them, no matter how dominant a draft pick was as a college player. College is college, but the NFL is a big step up.

I hope they go total O in the 1st - Bowers, OT, or trade partner like Falcons using #8 for a WR or OT. I wanted them to get Pitts in-season when Falcons HC was being a boob.

This is true for every NFL Draft prospect. Comes down to grit and determination.

History has shown if you protect Herbert he'll find the open man 1,2, 3, even 4 looks later.

If folks think we have the OL talent already, just need better scheme/coaching/Salyer to RT, then the biggest need is a MW-type WR. Agree that when he went down, everything else sputtered. He consistently demanded double teams, and if singled up Herbert would target him and Mike would usually make the catch.

If we don’t trade down, Nabers should be the pick.

Sorry man you’re nuts. Palmer can’t carry Puka’s jock. And I like Palmer. He’s just not on the same level
