Busts come from all programs big and small. It's a crap shoot. Do your homework, stick to your board, and hope like hell you were correct.

With a coach like JD....OTs that end up going late in the 1st through the 3rd can be coached into elite level players. Drafting stud talent is just one part of it. Coaching them up is the other part. Something i think our recent draft picks have been victims of.

I'm really off the LT in the first bandwagon. Dunlap may actually be the long term solution at the position. I know there are the concussion concerns, but he's never had a history of them. I would prefer to solidify our interior line before worrying about our OT's.
While Clary and Rinehart have been adequate, we can clearly upgrade those positions. I'm not sure we can really gain much by going with a LT with how well Dunlap has played this season. His development as a run blocker has been simply remarkable and he's become a complete LT. He's even severely cut down on his penalties. I would actually make extending him this offseason a priority.
We could look to bring in another developmental LT, but more like a 5th rounder, not a top pick.

I'm referring to AJ's draft style as opposed to what I'm hoping TT's draft style is going to be. Rank the players according to their skills and how they fit your system and take best available. Especially since we have needs everywhere.Originally posted by Panamamike View PostReach? According to who? I will take "reaches" like Fluker every year. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

Ive suggested guys like Zack Martin who project at OG in the pros but have dominated at OT in college. It gives you some insurance for Dunlap in that you could move Martin to RT in a pinch and use Fluker on the left side to cover for Dunlap. But his primary position would be OG. Use Clarys money and Cox's money to upgrade CB etc. Joel Bitonio is another guy i really like for the same reason. Kyle Long types.

How do you feel about Xavier Su'a-Filo from UCLA? He fits in that mold of playing both OG and OT but projects as a OG in the NFL. Depending on how does at the combine but he seems to be projected in the 2nd right now.Originally posted by Fleet View PostIve suggested guys like Zack Martin who project at OG in the pros but have dominated at OT in college. I understand busts come from every school big or small (USC has had its fair share). I just think the floors of players that were multiple year starters at big schools from big conferences tend to be higher, therefor the "bust" potential is much lower and their impact is generally much earlier.Originally posted by Panamamike View PostBusts come from all programs big and small. I love him at OG but at 6'3 hes right where its considered to short to play OT in the NFL. He might even be closer to the 6'2 range. I like him as a pure OG. He hasnt declared yet i dont think. If he declares next year i think he would be 25 years old.Originally posted by SFWfromESPN View PostHow do you feel about Xavier Su'a-Filo from UCLA? But to do what he did at LT as a freshman was impressive. That was way back in 2009.
