Not picking up a RB in this years draft by at least the third round would be criminal negligence on the part of our management team. There are at least six guys in the draft who would be an upgrade to the #2 back on our team with out a huge dropoff if dobbins goes down for a few games.Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

Almost everyone agrees with you. Draft takes, judgement calls are always going to be either/or.Originally posted by gzubeck View Post
I prefer no oline in first two rounds and wish to open the checkbook for those players.

Actually, I prefer proven free agents along the OL. They are relatively cheap compared to most other positions. WR's, EDGE players, and CB's almost always cost a premium in free agency... they should be drafted.
IOL players are a crap shoot. Look at our own Zion Johnson for proof. Dan Feeney, Forrest Lamp... Some of our best IOL players have been free agent pick ups... Corey Linsley, Mike Goff...
I'm not overlooking draftable IOL... I'm simply hoping they fix the problem with proven players. It's that important. We have the money. There doesn't have to be splash signings. The toys are in the draft. A RB for a team that wants to run the ball better is not some outlandish ask. A TE for a coach(s) that almost always want a top-end TE is another real smart choice. We have 1 undersized WR and another WR (from a former regime) that hasn't developed yet... and cannot be counted on week in and week out. Aging EDGE players in Mack and Bosa (Bosa probably cut due to cap).
The RB, TE, WR, and EDGE players are all there... appropriate slots, too.
Hortiz should bring back the recent free agents that were proven fits... Mack, Ford, Tart, Perryman, Fulton, Molden, Dobbins. Go out and sign two IOL.. Go into the draft with an attainable list of wishes.

I agree. Which OL should they sign to fix the interior?Originally posted by Boltnut View Post

More than likely a 7th round pick or even UDFA in this RB draftOriginally posted by electricgold View PostMONTRELL JOHNSON JR. RB FLORIDA | NFL DRAFT PROFILE & SCOUTING REPORT

Way more than 6 RBs in this draft would have a very good shot to be better than Haskins and Vidal. Gus should be cut to save 3.1 million. I would put the number at least 15Originally posted by gzubeck View Post

I watched a good interview with Jim Nagy who runs the Senior Bowl.
He said the deepest position and toughest to narrow down invites was D line
He also said there are some o linemen with versatility and at Senior Bowl practises they will be giving some guards the chance to snap to see if they can play center. He mentioned Zabel from North Dakota as one such guy he thought had center potential. In a weak center class some prospects could increase their draft stock if they have center potential. This could be of interest to Chargers

Thanks for the highlights BUT they are Highlights. They all look good on highlights.Originally posted by electricgold View PostMONTRELL JOHNSON JR. RB FLORIDA | NFL DRAFT PROFILE & SCOUTING REPORT

Most of the long runs he had there were large open areas. He will not get those in the NFL, hence why it's often hard to project.

Now Neal's highlights showed me a lot more!Originally posted by electricgold View PostDEVIN NEAL RB KANSAS | NFL DRAFT PROFILE & SCOUTING REPORT

He has patience ( waiting for block or openings ), vision, hands and they when he hits his hole BAM he really accelerates!
The one thing I did not see was strength. No plays that shows him carrying or pushing the pile forward. Do know if he has that or not since I did not see it. Other than that he looks like Gore

The first and foremost priority for LA Chargers and Jim Harbaugh would be to tap into the NFL draft names and decide on a replacement. And Shemar Stewart, the Texas A&M player can be the solution for sorting out their DL problem. Furthermore, NFL Draft Analyst and Scout Stephen Muench picked Stewart as his first DL draft pick speaking on the ‘McShay Show‘ on YouTube, “Shamar Stewart from Texas is 6’6” and 290 lbs and has an edge, he’s high cut and he’s gonna be able to get under pads and is he is quick he’s so explosive “. Shamar who had an incredible season in 2024 with 31 tackles and a solid defensive performance overall does merit the praise.
Muench also added, “He’s one of those guys who can just knock an offensive tackle on his ass on his way to the quarterback sets The Edge against the Run I think he’s a defensive man than a four-man like a base four-man front or a four-man heavy front, but he can play anywhere, he’s awesome”. But will the Chargers realistically be able to land Stewart?
The feat is easier said than done. Right now teams like Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars are also in need of bolstering their defensive units. But, still with the Jaguars, their top priority would be the CB position as pointed out by several mock drafts. Moreover, the Seahawks do need a DL right now but they will be most probably looking toward Ohio State’s Jack Sawyer with a PFF grade of 89+. So, if these projections play out, the LA Chargers can ultimately land Shamar Stewart for themselves.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

I'm convinced the wisest strategy is to get starting caliber weapons in FA because can't depend on rookies to build enough chemistry with herbo to win games early.
ideally iOL in FA also but I trust coaches to have rookie OL up to speed with our talented tackles, at least more than weapons.
But the ultimate goal is to position ourselves for TRUE BPA to let Hortiz cook in the draft.
Ideally we can target an impact defender round 1."The best defense is more offense."
