How Much Does Better (or Appropriate) Coaching Affect Player Potential?

What might have happened to a player career and potential if they were drafted by a team with a better coach? Or organization? For example i was watching the unexpected shootout between the lions and browns in 2009, and i couldn't help but wonder to my self hoe good could brady quinn have been if when he was drafted he had a coach like sean payton or mike holmegreen, or belichek? U could see the potential in him, but ive always wondered how important the coaching is to a fresh nfl player for the rest of their career

Good thread. I think Mahomes is a great example of this. Andy Reid is perfect coach for Mahomes and runs the perfect offense for him. Give him to Norv Turner or Jon Gruden or Tom Coughlin and he may look like a bust. Same thing for Lamar Jackson and Harbuagh. Harbaugh showed a lot of flexibility
Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

Very interesting thought. Makes me wonder how many of the QB's that were so great in college but washed out in the NFL did so because of the coaching? Also, what about the reverse - Tom Brady was just so-so in college but look how he turned out - was it the coaching?

See that's what im wondering how many of these players careers were impacted on such of an extreme way due to their first coach in the nfl? Does tom brady become tom brady if not for belichek? Does patrick mahomes do what he does without andy reid? Imagine jon gruden coaching lamar jackson? How long before jackson woulda got benched?

Norv would have been a blessing and a curse to mahomes. Mahomes wpuld be able to air it out plenty, it would just be the same 3 plays over and over. The better question would be how would lamar handle norv?

More Charger fans had more confidence in Ryan Leaf than Herbert. The unreasonable hate he is getting from fans and critics of the Chargers before taking a snap is getting ridiculous. It's almost like the majority of them secretly wish for him to fail.
