Taylor has a winning record and frankly had poor offenses around him. I just think his ceiling is lower. He doesnt put the ball at risk of ints which imo is what Lynn likes combined with our defense.

that said i want Herbert developed and he surprised the shit out of me last week even with the loss i was thrilled. I feel bad for Taylor but geez us fans need some Herbert about now after losing Rivers (love the guy) and Herbert was just too exciting to put back into the toolbox .

i hope Herbert gets a few weeks here to show us why we just cant take him off the field.

Did Herbert have weapons like SEC QBs have every year? The fact that he spread the ball as he did in his first start showed me enough to think he wont be a bust.

        Inconsistency.

Everybody already knew he was a physical specimen, with a rocket for an arm, who could run.

But everybody who watched enough college tape on him also knew that sometimes he looked like the love child of Joe Montana and John Elway, while other times he looked TERRIBLE.
Some games he looked like the best QB in college, other games made people wonder why he was a starter.

        So....

We are going to need to see him over many games, to see if he has grown out of his inconsistency.

Yes, in this one game sample, HE LOOKED AMAZING.
But considering his history, that is not enough, he has to show consistency.
You do realize he had to learn a new offense every year at Oregon right? That is a big factor. You say he was the 3rd QB picked. So? Are NFL scouts and front offices always right? I think we all know the answer to that. Especially us Charger fans.

I find it interesting that you fault us for the "hype train" so we can't get excited about our new thoroughbred that showed out in his first NFL game?:shock::shock:

I don't think he will be inconsistent. I think he will bring his best game every week and the Chargers are going to win 12 games minimum. He's going to get better every game he plays this season. He's He's crazy intelligent, was blessed to come from a great family and is emotionally mature as a result, is quiet but stoic and creates his own motivation. I don't think he will make the same mistakes twice, at least not repeatedly. I think he emerge this season as a top 5 QB and stay there like Rodgers has for Green Bay. He wasn't inconsistent in college. Oregon won 12 games and the Rose Bowl because of Herbert and Herbert alone. He wasn't surrounded by top caliber talent like Tua at 'Bama and Burrow at LSU. What was inconsistent was his coaching at Oregon. He as in a new offensive system every year. Herbert is a winner and the Chargers are going to win with him.

He also played in a team in Oregon that went through their worst period of recruiting in 20 years, especially at the skill and speed positions they excelled at recruiting previously. He also had a different offensive coordinator each season.

Yet Burrows who only had one quality season in college, (which was perhaps the best ever in college football) while surrounded by a plethora of talent from top to bottom on his offense, and with the former saints passing coordinator directing the offense, is considered a can't miss prospect. The double standards in application of how these players are viewed is astounding.

You are the ultimate optimist. 12 games?
I've said all along 8-8 or 9-7 at best with Tyrod.
Not changing that with with Herbert and the growing pains to come.

A couple of posters already commented on Herberts lack of consistent coaching at Oregon, three HC’s and four OC’s during his Duck career. He showed up and played his senior year, the second year of Cristobal’s new dynasty (), those of us who watched the Rose bowl saw what Justin is capable of. Some experts say he should have been the fourth QB off the board....... BS, most so called experts are, self proclaimed experts, Herbert could very well be the best QB of the draft year.

now that I have established I have a first class ticket on the hype train and love it! Herbert is a rookie, a rookie with some talent and talent around him but he will have highs and lows. I would think with the situation of his learning in the last minute he was starting his adrenaline had to be pumping but he settled in and had a great.......A GREAT game, 300+ yards passing, a passing and a rushing TD! He will have a bit of a learning curve but he will be fine in my opinion, the future is bright for the Chargers and US Charger fans.

loving the hype train! This thread is so much better then Herberts draft thread! Lol.

Russell Wilson was the 6th QB picked in his draft. He must really suck.

                        Remember :

KC defense did not have NFL film on him. They were prepared for Tyrod. NFL DC's are smart people and will single out and exploit his weaknesses as the film piles up. Herbert may be good enough to adjust and keep them guessing, I'm on the train with hope coz damn he did look good.

There is some good reason for hype but I am not going to overdo it at this point yet. Still just a young QB and has a lot to learn. I like hearing the hype since it gives me a good reason to be excited and hopeful...just not going to let it go to far into my head yet though.
