Before We All Jump On The Justin Herbert Hype Train...

Before we all jump on the Justin Herbert hype train, let us remember why he was the 3rd QB taken in the draft, and why some draft experts thought he should be 4th.

    Inconsistency.

Everybody already knew he was a physical specimen, with a rocket for an arm, who could run.

But everybody who watched enough college tape on him also knew that sometimes he looked like the love child of Joe Montana and John Elway, while other times he looked TERRIBLE.
Some games he looked like the best QB in college, other games made people wonder why he was a starter.

    So....

We are going to need to see him over many games, to see if he has grown out of his inconsistency.

Yes, in this one game sample, HE LOOKED AMAZING.
But considering his history, that is not enough, he has to show consistency.

I'll take 4 average games per season from Herbert vs. 16 below average games from Tyrod. The days where he's average the rest of the team needs to pick up the slack!

He’s a rook who’s footwork/mechanics have been coached up. Muscle memory yet? Not likely.
Justin will have ups and downs as a rookie QB.
We will CHEER and we will cringe.

I’ll admit I didn’t like the draft pick however he gave us the lead at the end of the game against the World Champions off the bench with no notice. Not bad. This week should tell us quite a bit.

As life long Chargers fans we re used to this sort of thing like the hype train on a player gets derailed and catches on fire.

The only thing that can derail this train for the moment is illness, injury, or Anthony Lynne....

Agree....... it would be totally different if Taylor was a future HOF veteran like Manning, Rivers, Fouts, etc.... or even a solid Vet like Alex Smith who was leading your team to playoffs every year......

Taylor is nothing more than a nice guy and career backup...... he has been a career backup for a reason.... that playoff year in BUF was due to barely beating very bad teams by very low scores.... TT got killed whenever he played a good team......

I think Herbert is now in a better system with better coaching than he was in college..... We could see he was learning as the KC game was proceeding...... Herbert took a big sack but later in similar situation, he fired the ball out of bounds..... he aklso made some great big time throws while under heavy pressure and took alot of hits.....

none of us really know if he will be great in the long run but he will at least be fun to watch while he is learning..... we will go into every game with a chance to win..... he is a very good guy, great athlete, and will be fun to root for.....

I see many good things about J. Herbert.
He could be a P. Rivers who can run.
His INT against KC reminds me Phil.
