If you bring in Harbaugh, you have to solve the problem of who is OC and DC.

Harbaugh and Pep could be good too.
    Norv? What???

Need someone with newer ideas. I actually like a lot of what Steichen ran. some clever misdirections and screens and things. But the predictable running plays... ugh.
Actually, Norv voluntarily resigned mid-season, because he felt he wasn't doing a good enough job...weird...

He's a QB coach that took over Whiz's system after Whiz was fired. By that I mean he doesn't have his own playbook.

It can take years for a true OC to develop. You have to ask what coaching tree they came from.

Norv came the Jimmy Johnson coaching tree.

Andy Reid came from the Mike Holmgren coaching tree.

Kyle Shanahan came from the Mike Shanahan coaching tree as did Matt LeFleur.

Then you have to ask what offensive system they run.

Holmgren and Reid run a variation of the West coast offense.

Whiz ran a variation of the Erhardt Perkins system. Daboll runs this system.

Norv ran a version of the Air Coryell.

To my knowledge, there are 3 major types of offenses. West coast, Erhardt perkins, and Air Coryell.

In my opinion, a true OC has his OWN playbook. That is, he's taken the basics of one of the 3 offenses and made changes to it to make it his own.

These are the types of questions the Spanos should be asking.

Question 1: What coaching tree do you come from ?

Question 2: What offensive system to you belong to.

Question 3: Where is your playbook ? This is the most important question.

Kyle Shanahan has his own playbook that is the size of an encyclopedia according to interviews with Matt Ryan. Sean McVay is an offensive genious that has his own playbook.

I'm pretty sure that Daboll runs a variation of the Erhardt Perkins system and has his own playbook.
^ This. They should also ask hypotheticals, like:

        1. How would you use KA in your offense?
        2. How would you use Herbie?
        3. In your offense, what are the most effective plays in 3rd and long?
        4. How do you defeat an attacking, blitzing D?
        5. Looking at the Charger roster, what kind of personnel do you need to make the O run the way you want?

        and many more...

I don't think they can ask these types of questions because I don't think they know the answers......

I almost hate to say it but it seems evident that if we end up with Norv as our OC, Herbert will flourish!

I realize its a pipe dream but Norv failed as a HC not as a OC.

Can you imagine Herbert in the Air Coryell throwing those long beautiful bombs ?

That would put some butts in the seats.

But of course, we would have to fix the OLine for the longer developing pass plays. Herbert would have to hold the ball longer or scramble to buy time.

Have you forgotten Norv's playbook? All those first down, up the gut runs? So done with that...

An Aikman type QB with better athletic traits, bigger arm, and mobility.
A tough running game and bombs away.

Oline, RB, TE this offseason on O.
