If we keep RM we can not spend as much time on a healthier prospect without cutting a player not named Oliver and take the cap hit.

That is why I see us going into the year with Woodhead and Oliver as locks and Brown a lock coming into camp who would only be cut if some UFA really stands out. The last RB will either be Mathews or who knows, could be our #1 back or #4 back. Woodhead is a lock to be the third down guy and Oliver I feel a lock at the backup spot. Donald Brown as a backup to Woodhead and Mathews?/Oliver. With a good O-line this backfield has potential to be scary. But the potential was there this year and we got pie in the face.

With incentives thrown in as part of it, like play in 12+ games to get the last $1M each year of the $2.5M. Maybe throw a bone to him like if he rushes for 2400 yards over the first two years he could void the third, something favorable to both sides.
I sure hope TT doesn't throw that kind of money at RM. In fact, I hope they're just done with RM altogether. Spend that money (and more) on the o-line and guys like Oliver/Brown/Woodhead will be good enough, though I hope they go after a RB in the mid rounds in the draft.

With a 4th RB, I can see going with RM as either a very low cap figure or even incentive laden deal. AJ didn't like those deals, but TT is fine with them. I don't mind paying a RM $8 mill a season, if the guy runs for 2,000 yards and 15 TD.

The issue is a little deeper then that though. It is also about the roster spot. Do we keep a guy who is going to be inactive for how many games, or activate a lesser player who is more likely to stay healthy?

Give the roster spot to a kickoff specialist who can get touchbacks. He'll have more impact than a guy who is in street clothes on the sidelines.
