Great insights in that article..Thanks for sharing!!
Webb jumped 11-feet, 6-inches on his third broad jump, which was ties the top mark set by Jeremy Chinn at last year’s NFL Combine for defensive backs, and Webb’s 36.5-inch vertical jump and 80-inch wingspan garnered further attention.
“Of all the DBs, Mark Webb looked the most fluid,” said Jim Nagy, a former NFL scout who now serves as the Senior Bowl executive director. “Mark really helped himself out. People who think Mark Webb is a late-round pick are mistaken. He has position versatility. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
The Wasted Decade is done.

The new D, a big, big part of it is to move the S around and hide the coverage, and hiding them deep, then coming downhill and making the play going forward. The S are asked to come up and fill, and be a major part of the run stopping on the perimeter. The split secondary asks the S to come down and take away crossing routes, so again, coming forward.
That is what he struggled with Carolina last year was he was asked to do a lot of the rotate down and make plays forward, in both run support and in coverage. That is what we want him to do in the new D. He is just not a good fit. Hopefully, Boston can get back into that deep middle S role for a team that plays that Seattle style of D with a single high S.
But we aren't that team,
thx mang

After watching the Collinsworth/Sherman podcast with Staley (right after his hiring) it makes me wonder if Staley handpicked Webb as a potential "star". Switch from WR to DB, Staley referring to Jalen Ramsay as a 'DB' (like he did Webb (after draft) and Webbs intelligence makes me think Staley saw him as ace ST and potential 'star'. I am NOT saying Webb is Jalen or DJ caliber, but in the 7th and with a year to groom....why not take a shot?
I highly recommend that video. You will like Staley even more.
