only this year for highest return is for sure. He can simply choose to retire no matter what tag they put on him and we get nothing. He could also demand a trade behind the scenes (I don't see him going public like Jr. Seau did)- but that gives all the leverage to the team trading FOR Rivers because everyone knows he wants out. So yeah, I'd say we only have this year to trade him for the best deal.

its unlikely we are going to start a rookie QB at all- even if we draft 1. Kellen Clemons is on the roster for a reason and has been a starter and that's what I would expect if we trade Rivers. If we actually find a stud RB and upgrade the OL further any QB we use will have a better chance of success with a good running game to lean on.

that's a nonsense trade idea that came from Titans fans on message boards and was reposted here. All other trade ideas I've seen suggested has us keeping our #17 in the 1st round + GAINING another 1st and probably 2nd (or 3rd) round picks for Rivers.

However, he didnt need surgery which is a good sign. Tony Romo had that issue and did have suregry and he came back and had a great season last year. He is 35. If Rivers needs relief from a bulging disk on his nerves , that is where the surgery comes in to play. The fact he didnt need it is good news though i dont know how they treat a bulging disk asside from surgery since i dont have one of those. Athletes sure seem to get better care from their Dr's than we do.
right. I didn't need surgery on mine (yet) either but they told me if it got worse with the nerves I would likley need it to relieve pressure. Romo actually had the problem 2 seasons ago and missed some time, but came back for the playoffs and finished the season IIRC. He later had the surgery and played last season.

I went back and clarifed a description in my earlier post as well that I didn't state well. What my Drs told me was the discs that are Bulging can in some cases eventually subside and reduce their size almost back to normal over time and with treatment. However the Ruptured discs lose all the elastic "jelly" inside and flatten out leaving almost no cushion between surrounding vertebrae. The lost "jelly" gets absorbed back into your body. The surgery they thought I might need was a cleanup to take out the empty "casing" of my ruptured disc if it caused problems. I don't know exactly what Rivers had/has but he said he was back to playing golf and normal activities and might be healed if nothing was actually ruptured.

If Rivers is dissatisfied with the organization, it didn't start this offseason. That's my point. Rivers has always been a Chargers loyalist. He's always struck me as a guy that wants to stay here, win a ring and finish his career as a Charger. That's doesn't just evaporate over a tough season littered with injuries that likely contributed to his own, an empty threat to move to LA to get SD off the dime and a free agency period that didn't result in 5 new linemen and $250M in outlays for new guys. I don't think he's stupid. And I don't think he's that shallow. Now if there are other things going on at Chargers Park that I'm not aware of (like the AJ-Marty stuff), thats a different story. The developments with Weddle may indicate that. But it sure doesn't seem like the org they set up under TT is inclined that way.

On a sidenote, Dean and Alex have presided over some extremely poor organizational setups that always seem to result in dysfunction, so I don't put that past them. But for now, we don't know anything about that. What we do know is that Rivers has power in the situation and he's using it to influence it (as I have said since the outset), but there is nothing so far that suggest to me that he is eager to leave SD.
So those nettlesome facts were neither facts or nettlesome.

Telesco said he won't get into conversations with players, agents, when asked if Philip Rivers has been told he won't be traded.

Funny thing is, Rivers is actually helping all this happen.
