A little cold water on the rumors:
Chargers, Titans haven't talked Rivers trade
By Michael Gehlken 8:30 A.M.APRIL 23, 2015
A blockbuster trade that'd arguably be the most complex in Chargers history is nowhere close to coming to fruition.
Speculation has mounted the Chargers could trade quarterback Philip Rivers to the Titans, who own the No. 2 overall pick, possibly to acquire former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. A Chargers team source said Thursday morning, one week before draft day, that San Diego has not discussed a Rivers trade "at all" with Tennessee. There has been no contact between the two sides.
A measure of caution.
Developments in this league can happen in an instant.
But nonetheless, silence may be telling for two parties with certainly a lot to figure out for rumor to become reality. Namely, the Chargers and Titans not only would need to reach compensation in a rare deal that sends a proven franchise quarterback for the unproven possibility of another. It seems likely the Titans also would need to have meaningful contract discussions with Rivers.
Rivers, 33, is entering the final year in his contract.
Any team that'd acquire him, sending valuable compensation in a trade, first would need assurance he was part of its long-term future.
The Chargers hope Rivers is part of theirs.
They have broached contract-extension talks with the nine-time captain, although at this point to no avail. General Manager Tom Telesco addressed Rivers' future at length Wednesday during his annual pre-draft press conference. Repeatedly, he made clear the team hopes to retain Rivers.
"Philip's our quarterback, and the plan is he'll be here for a long, long, long time," Telesco said.
The Chargers began voluntary workouts this week.
Rivers not only reported Monday but worked to scheduled a Tuesday throwing session with teammates, wide receiver Stevie Johnson said, in an effort to build chemistry toward the upcoming year.
"It's our plan and intent that he's our quarterback well into the future," Telesco said. "In all my discussions with him, he's shown a great amount of respect for his teammates and a great amount of respect for this organization. He's been here every day, working extremely hard, being the leader that he is that we've all come to know. I know he's really excited about this season as are we."

At the end of the day I want no parts of a Rivers trade. I wanna see playoff games in the foreseeable future and not looking to build a future contender.

I think if it was known that the Chargers allowed Sexton to talk to the Titans, it would be proof that a trade was a strong possibility. I don't know if that's happening; too many insiders/reporters seeking that kind of leak and nothing reported strongly indicates no discussion is in progress.
