Weddle's whole family is up in San Bernardino county. They drive down and tailgate among us Bolt Pride. I don't think the drive to LA would be an issue.

Why offer a contract that could create dead cap space due to the normal aging process?

I love Weddle, but I do not think we should bend over to pay him to retire in LA, or San Diego

Could agents of players who think we will move into a bigger market be, claim staking on future cap space for their named players now???
A three year extension keeps him to age 34. Rodney Harrison turned 36 during his last season.

Rodney's career was extended by Vitamin S.

Moves made prior to FA are all about forcing under performing players to take it or leave it, so that teams can free up money for the new league year. We have redone a lot of those deals in the past, but Weddle and Rivers are not those types of players.
When did Butler get his deal last year?

I believe right at the start of the free agency window.

Hmmmmm....3 yr deal is max I would do. Not a lot of productive +34 year old safeties in the league. However, if I were the GM I would be adding a safety in the draft, and strongly contemplating allowing Weddle to walk after this year. I am not a fan of paying premium money to post 30 y old non-Qbs. I love Weddle, have enjoyed his career immensely, but this is a business, and guys at his stage tend to want to be paid on past production instead of likely future production. It all boils down to what his salary demands are IMO. He will be 31 at he end of the season.

                          February of last year.
                          Bad move by Telesco.
However, he's not to blame for all the shitty relations between the team and star players over the years.
The team angered fans, at least one head coach, and players under Steve Ortmayer.
The team angered the head coach and fans under Bobby Beathard.
The team angered coaches, players, and fans under AJ Smith.
The team has now angered players and fans under Tom Telesco.
The GMs always change. The shitty human-relations remain the same.
