I checked on stathead.com, and that's the Chargers' longest clock-draining-victory-formation drive going back to 1994 (that's as far as their play-by-play data goes). In 2004, there were a couple of 3:50 drives with 2 first downs (LT running, Brees throwing) to run out the lock. But nothing like the 6:43, four first-down job yesterday. Impressive!

that was a helluva drive. Conversions to KA, KJ, Mike and KA again. Take three knees

      Victory!

Herbert has a chance to be very good. But if Bulaga is out for any length, they need to call Rick Wagner -today!

For all of the consternation among forum members about K.J. Hill making the 53 man roster, he contributed 3 catches, on three targets, for 30 yards.

In other words, he's not just taking up a roster space because he can field punts.

I think maybe this coaching staff will get more out of him. He's still young too.

Hard to find any fault in an east coast road win in week 1 against a tough defense.

            Keep getting better!

The O-Line was a breath of fresh air for once.

When the Herbert pass was ruled a fumble, I was like "Here we go again...."

The D better be prepared for CeeDee and Amari next week.

Having Linsley really helps guys like Norton.

Yes. So does a coordinated game plan with designed protections.

Preseason is over. I think when Staley said he was not trying to make practice easy, this is exactly what he was talking about. He hung Norton and Pipkins out to dry when it didn't count so they would be better and more calm when it does.

I just did another stathead search. Since 2001, a team starts a drive:
                        • ahead by 8 or fewer points (one score)
                        • more than six minutes to go
                        • drive lasts until the end of the game (victory formation)

Throughout the NFL, this happened 22 times from 2001-2020. Roughly once a year. And the Chargers did it the first game of 2021!

The most remarkable one was 2002. Patriots get the ball with 9:46 and an 8-point lead over the Lions. Brady runs out the clock with 7 first downs, ending on the Detroit 1 yard line.

I would like to give props to the whole O line.

Especially the interior. GCG. There was very very little push up the middle. Herbert with time is going to be fun to watch. I would like to point out that 3rd and 16 to KA. To me that velocity & time in the air looked almost the same as a 10 yard dig. That is a scary thing to think about.

I say run when needed but let this kid throw that rock around the yard every game.

My appreciation for JH is blooming into a mancrush. I watched football all day. I would put JH up there with anyone. Mahomes and Herbert are going to be some mashup games with this budding rivalry.
