So the agent fed Acee his side of things and Acee wrote it all down for him in the paper as factual. Wouldn't be surprised if the story about McCoy badmouthing Weddle was also from the agent to Acee. I mean why would McCoy say what Acee is accusing him of? Sounds like the agent told Eric he can get him big money and advised him to stay away from voluntaries to play hard ball. And it is back firing for the agent. So he spins some more and the ever willing Acee is there to write it, word for word. Think about it -- every piece ( other than opinion ones) stating the " facts" about Weddle's contract have come from Acee. Not Ghelken the beat writer. Acee. Kevin only writes negative stuff about the Chargers and only seems to have any insights into the "facts" for Weddle and Rivers.

I still think the Chargers are waiting to see how Rivers comes along. Why resign another older player if we suddenly aren't in contention because we don't have a QB?
Weddle has to play out this season, because he is under contract. So, we still have him this season for sure. The rest is up to Rivers and the stadium issues.

The Chargers recently approached Philip Rivers with an extension. He declined.
Eric Weddle has waited for an extension. None has been offered.
Such is the state of two franchise superstars, Rivers the team's quarterback, Weddle the All-Pro safety who quarterbacks its defense. General manager Tom Telesco will have the opportunity to address both situations Wednesday when he holds his annual pre-draft press conference.
.......
Between Weddle and the Chargers, a resolution is simple. They can lock him up to a lengthy extension, a deal that gets done today with a phone call. The organization clearly values him. Any contract that reflects such almost certainly will be considered.
Despite the high regard to which Chargers decision makers hold Rivers, without an extension, they cannot conclusively say he'll be a Charger beyond this year. Unless Telesco feels compelled Wednesday to eliminate the option, which he has minimal incentive to do, the number of fallback scenarios include a draft-day maneuver in which they center piece Rivers as part of a deal, possibly to acquire Marcus Mariota.

That wasn’t the only player whose outlook Telesco was asked to address during his press conference. Safety Eric Weddle, who is in the final year of his deal with the club, hasn’t been part of the team’s first week of offseason work and said that he feels “highly, highly disrespected” by the lack of movement toward a new contract.
Telesco said that the team was in draft mode at this point, but that they were OPEN to talking about a new deal.
“We’ll have DISCUSSIONS at some point. No doubt. … He’s a major part of our football team,” Telesco said, via Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego.

Weddle, 30, hoped to sign a new contract by training camp, skipping voluntary workouts this spring as a measure of protest to the inactivity on that front. The Chargers informed him this month no such deal will be reached this year. He is due $7.5 million in 2015, still top safety money. The team in more interested in securing younger players with a second contract than older ones with a third.
The Chargers informed Weddle's agent on Monday his deal will not be extended this year. He signed a five-year, $40 million contract in 2011 and remains among the top NFL safeties in compensation, due a $7.5 million salary this season.
But the five-time All-Pro wants to be a Charger long term. While the team has not engaged in negotiations with Weddle's agent, it is its belief an extension would involve a raise. The stance not to extend him this year all but assures he will play elsewhere in 2016.
so, per Gehlken (not Acee), in late April it was "yeah we're open to discussion" about Weddle's contract, to about a month later "not engaged in negotiations, while informing Weddle's agent he will not be extended". Wow, Acee writes so much negative stuff but not Gehlken.Last edited by homeless simpson; 06-13-2015, 11:42 AM.
