Raiders also have a really good pass rush, let's not forget. Hard to work downfield without time. Herbert missed a couple passes and was rattled a couple times but he was usually quick through his reads.

Down 14 with about 2 minutes to go he slid on a 3rd and 10 with like 20 yards of green in front of him and Merrill of all people chasing him. 4th and 7, turnover on downs.

Like, little chance of winning at that point, but c'mon man.

There's also the time he spiked the ball on 4th down. It's a thing now. Shook one.

So why was Merrill undrafted?

Probably depends on the team, different priorities, needs. He doesn't meet the profile. Length, weight proportions for DL.
He looked like a NT fireplug / speedbumpin the NFL, period. We didn't draft him either but were willing to give him a show me opportunity.
There may be a place for a backup NT that can handle double teams even if he is short, and it appears that he has more to offer. I wish him luck. He's in a good place with Staley's aggressively open mind.

Yeah, I thought so too.
I'm surprised the broadcasters didn't mention it, nor did Staley challenge it.

He was short of the first down even if it was a catch so no challenge would make sense.
