One of our awesome brothers (forgive me for forgetting who) posted how Lombardi has not made things easy on Herbert. A predominance of outside the numbers throws, especially on early downs. I think it is all part of taking advantage of what Herbert can do ( most Qb CANNOT do what he can do) and staying true to what Staley said about not making things easy. Staley has so much confidence in Herbert that he is putting all the responsibility on his shoulders but NOT designing an offense that makes it easy for him. This is why Staley got hired and why he is such an outstanding coach. He knows what he has and is willing to use it fully and not take the easy way out and get all the potential credit and accolades he could easily get. He is smart enough and EQ enough to know that challenging a player like Herbert pays off. NOT challenging Herbert types is the worse thing you can do.

The rookie WR had groin surgery in Aug, missed most of TC, all of the preseason, and is going to play in his first NFL game Sunday. He's not a star yet.

Kelly had a couple nice runs last week, looked more decisive and explosive than we’ve seen him in the past. Only 2 reps, cannot a trend be confirmed. As much the way he ran, like he finally is starting to realize he had better run like his life depends on it if he wants a life in the NFL. We’ll see if he plays, and if he gets any touches.

Have not been overly impressed by Rountree lately. He’s been running like yet another JAG. Granted that priority is creating a study DL and shoring up the OL gaps, but a true elite RB does make a difference and would be nice to have.

Herbert ranks No. 1 in the NFL in raw QBR on late downs with a rating of 94.6. Meanwhile, Jackson’s raw QBR on third and fourth down is verging on terrible, clocking in at 26.5, good for just 26th in the league.
