Maybe you should give Staley a chance. I love the guy. It’s obvious watching players on the field that too many of them simply do not match up against their counterparts. They are getting beat 1x1 hat on hat, pad on pad all over the field, with the noted consistent exception of DJ and JB and even JB completely whiffed on the QB and contain and allowed a TD.

Not saying he’s been perfect or genius, we all probably forgot to allow for more growing pains due to his excellent start. But I am seeing roster issues that prevents top tier defense regardless of how clever he might be.
Staley is no Belichick: he has only 3 years of experience with pro defenses and sticks to what he knows. Eventually there will be more flexibility and tweaks to his overall scheme. Belichick, the GOAT:shrug:, happens to be the best illustration of a D coach who has flexible schemes.

Belichick went into one season where he changed the base D into a 4 - 3, merely because he felt that offseason/preseason did not afford enough time.

Here is something about his time with the Giants:

"Belichick highlighted a time in 1990 when he changed the Giants defensive alignments every week in the playoffs, from 4-3 against the Bears, to 3-4 against the 49ers, and to 3-3-nickel against the Bills in the Super Bowl. There is no higher leverage point in the season than the playoffs and Belichick had his defense change their strategy every week."

I’d be happy if Staley just tried changing players. If who we keep trotting out there gets beat 1x1, trot out somebody else. Nothing develops players better than, well, playing.

Everybody knows that NFL quarterbacks can throw, but few people realize just how hard they throw. John Elway demonstrated this perfectly.

The Elway Cross. Elway broke fingers.

Some of these 'drops' are uncatchable - the pic 6 off Ekeler's hand is one of them.

The throw to Bradwell in the Denver game was uncatchable. Some simply are. Drops happen, but not a clip they are happening for the Chargers.

Would Keenan really make a statement as charged as that if it wasn't an issue? Justin Herbert screamed at Josh Palmer in the Minnesota game 'CATCH THE BALL'. The Chargers lead the league in drops, that's on the player not adjusting to the throwing style of the QB, IMO.

Slayer message was simple: The kid throws heaters. Adjust. Adapt or you are a detriment.

Follow my logic: Early in the season, when the Chargers had motion penalties, those were on Herbert. The alignments were correct, but the QB must allow for one full second for the player to SET, before he may snap the ball, otherwise an illegal formation is called. Herbert was not allowing for that one second, and that's on him. Herbert gets it now, and that's QB growth that's tangible.

Total speculation: Is Herbert simply throwing it harder in game situations, compressing his delivery under duress and effecting the timing, than in practice? You practice like you play. If Herbert is not showing full velocity in practice, and he is surprising his receivers in games, that's an issue that needs to be addressed. Ask him to be more critical of his velocity and it's consistency.

                    And is 100% coach-able.

Nonsense, that hit him in the hands. Not a perfect throw but uncatchable is an objectively false statement.
