I was really surprised by the Chargers fans being so loud. It gave KC that real away game feel imo. Almost made me wonder if it was real or artificial lol.

Game really could've gone either way. The fact we dropped 2 in the red zone and the game went into OT supports this.

I think Staley and Lombardi now understands real-game capabilities and shortcomings of all our rotations.

LA is actually starting to come around in supporting the Chargers. Mainly due to Herbert.

This is only year one under Staley. I think th culture has been established.

2022 marks the 2nd season under the same offensive system for Herbert.

Damn! To answer my own question… It got them past us straight into the play-offs!

Mathieu is just one of the best paid nickle CB in the NFL, but he doesn't really play in KC base D.

Elway was only a good FA guy when they had a play well or else mentality. When everyone knew it was SB or bust, back when Manning was the QB, then every FA knew they were gone if they didn't produce at a high level, and he did get rid of some FA who didn't produce. However, since then, most of the FA he has signed are just as bad as every other FA signing, which is to say, mostly a waste of time/space/money.

Again, the vast majority of FA never do anything. Most people just deny it because they see players and see the player they used to be. Then the teams sign new players and they go to shit. Most fans only pay attention to their own team and think it is just their team, but it is most of the players in the NFL. The good best players never make it to become FA.
#1) Failures at free agency stand out far more than the successes.
#2) Reasonably priced free agents are largely successful. The ones that typically are noted failures are ones paid towards the top of their position.
#3) When you are paying a free agent, you have to outbid other teams, causing teams to overpay on occasion.
#4) Teams are apt to reach for free agents the same way that they are apt to reach in the draft. The best approach is to bring in a free agent that upgrades a position, not overpay for a free agent to shore up your weakest position.
#5) Teams make the mistake of bringing in free agents that are on the back end of their career. Teams should be very reluctant to sign guys over 30 to big contracts, unless at QB.
#6) Anytime you are paying a player the top at their position, or near the top, it is a risk. Even if it is re-signing your own player.

          You are proving my point.

Failures are certainly easier to find. There are a lot more of them. Look up and down at the lists of who signed a couple of years ago, they will be getting cut in droves as the guys who will be the future caps space for this coming season. Most did little or nothing for the team.

There are very few FA who are under 30. Those that there are, typically have huge flaws, or they never would have gotten that far towards being a FA and would have been re-signed by their original team. See here https://overthecap.com/free-agency/ Remember that the best of that list will sign with their team before FA starts, and never make it to be a FA. You are left with either not signing good prospects or overpaying. It has been like that for years and it is getting worse.

There is a TON of money for teams to use in FA. Ravens, Pats, Panthers, Bucs, Texans, KC, Lions, Browns, Bears, Raiders, Colts, BroncosSeahawks, Jets, Jags, WFT, LAC and Miami all have more than $20 million in cap space NOW. After they do some roster shuffling and a little restructuring, there will be even more cap space freed up. TONS of money going to FA, there is nothing that is going to keep teams from showing any restraint. The limited market of players combined with a huge amount of cash, much of which HAS to be spent. The CBA has a clause that MAKES teams spend a certain percentage of the money, so that teams cannot simply elect to not use all their cap space. Any player who is ANY good, is going to have dump trucks full of money thrown at them.

Teams will rationalize their way into paying them anything, because the math tells the story. NFL teams need about 65 players to fill out a roster. That is an active roster, plus PS, and a few street FA to fill out the roster. Average career is 5 years (including guys who are FA). That means we need around 13 new players per year, on average. The NFL draft is defined to have 8 draft picks per team (8 rounds worth of players x 32 teams = 256 player draft), so while teams can trade them, that means someone has to lose one too. We need to (on average) sign 5 street, UDFA or UFA every year MINIMUM, plus the 8 draft pick to simply break even with waste-age. With demand like that, especially any team who has traded some picks, what is stopping them from spending like crazy?
