I hate having inactive players. If you are on the roster you should be able to suit up.

Maybe it's a union concession? The league will allow a few extra roster spots (jobs) in return for an "inactive" designation, which doesn't count for accrued playing time (giving the team extra time to restrict that player). Just guessing here.

I think it was made to keep things "fair", meaning both teams have the same amount of players playing. Or some shit like that.

This is what I understood - if a team has 5 or 6 players beat up enough that they can't play against a team without beat up players, than they'd be at a competitive disadvantage. Dumb rule.

The nfl should get rid of the gameday inactive rule and just allow teams to put injured players on a temporary inactive list and promote or sign another player. The way they do it in the NBA.

I'd go a step further and make it so you lose an IR spot when your player is suspended.

That works.

It's just crazy that the league doesn't make IR rules a top priority, especially when you consider every teams season is pretty much dictated by the health of their players. Being able to put ONE player on IR-designated to return isn't nearly enough.
