Bulleit is a perfectly respectable spirit to serve friends. I have bottles of Woodford Reserve and Four Roses in the cabinet, comparable to your Bulleit. I used to be a “Scotch guy” but I’ve migrated to bourbons. I never even knew rye until one time meeting a pal on travel he ordered us up a couple manhattans (which I’d never had).

Fun fact, the house I bought in St Joseph Mo was built by a whiskey distillery family who's early products were sent west with the weather expansion and gold rush. If you ever see Red Top Rye that's the Westheimer family.

Bro, that is a fun fact! Next time I’m in a fine establishment and ask for a Rye, they say what would you like, and I reply well what do you have … if that name comes up its getting ordered! Red Top.

Basil Hayden is very good too. I worked part time at BevMo and as much as customers asked me questions, I turned around and asked them. The more you know…

I don't think you can get it anymore I just looked and I see lots of antique bottles for sale but nothing current. I did find this though..

Bulleit is a step above the brand name whiskeys such as Jack Daniel or Jim Beam. And I like it better than so-called premiums such as Makers Mark or Crown Royal. For sours I mix it one oz fresh squeezed lemon juice to two oz bourbon with simple syrup or agave in a shaker with ice, and pour it on the rocks in a glass, unless someone wants it up. It makes a very tart cocktail, and I can't see using a super premium small batch for these. A decent bourbon such as Bulleit works well.
