I think this offense will rise...but the D will always seemingly kill us. Staley is just in way over his head. I think the Charger social media presence is really important to them...and Staley is a good rep of this team outside of winning. I know they love how he reps them. He just doesnt feel like a coach to me. This team puts so much time in front of the camera....shining turds....its maddening. I get 20 Charger notifications every day. And so much of it is players doing skits and doing things not related to getting better. Just doesnt feel like Staleys side of things are focused.
Kind of like how Boltx, I thought, so wisely said about how the Chargers PR or Marketing team seems to spend a lot of energy and time with the Football Release Schedule in Anime. And sure, its fun to see. Granted, I didn't go through it frame by frame like some other viewers did to find all the subtle jokes that made. Which tells me they spent a boat load of time on the anime. Fine, alright - its a fun offseason project

But what about the actual product on the field - the ones that wins game. Kind of how you are saying about skits and things not related to football

Just a note: want to send you best wishes based on your other post - sending you good positive vibes. Be well

      Thank you for the Aloha.

I have worried in the past that these players are spending too much time doing other things than football. They even have sets now that they build on the chargers site to promote these skits. Its half football and half camera time it feels like. Im not going to dive to deep into this....but we once had AJ Smith move camp just to instill focus on the team and football. I cant remember if that worked etc...but those teams back then seemed a lot more detailed and technically sound than what we have now. I wonder if Staley is also told to let it happen. If you want to be coach of the chargers....you have to let the social media team take a bunch of the players time as part of the deal. Just my 2 cents. I know my anti social media stuff isnt popular with most fans. But i dont think most of the twitter fan base knows anything else. They slop that shit right up. Just a bunch of cheerleaders. We have some here. You see them bitching when we dont bury our heads in the sand given the gaping wounds we seemingly cant stop from killing us.

Yep...like the Slater tuna/dolphin skit with his girl in the supermarket...it smacked as prideful to me, and sure enough, pride came before the fall...how about the Bolts shut up and bolt up and let their play do the talking?

Yeah im not gonna make it Biblical or anything like that lol....but i dont think guys like Coryell...Schott and Ross would be ok with the amount of time the players spend doing non football stuff for the social media team. I think the Spani love that they have the best social media team in sports. Thats the win for them. Its all smoke and mirrors. The social media team is starting to get blasted now. Fans are revolting because they are tired of getting their hearts broken the way they do. I love reading the comments these days because its similar to what is happening to the Padres. All this money spent on a ship...but the ship has no captain to steer it away from hazards. Not a Melvin fan either. lol I was a huge fan of Moore...i definitely did not want a D coach to build around Herbert. We have the next great coach in this league already on the team...i really hope it plays out in a way that we can win games....but the defense and Staley end up getting revamped. Im down for a new GM as well.

Its funny to me that Herbert got the social media QB label...yet he is the one guy on the team that hates the cam in his face. The guy just is dying to get better. For every 2 steps forward he makes....the defense goes 3 backwards. Has to be maddening for him.

To be fair, I don't think it's just the Chargers.

All pro teams now have an "enhanced" social media presence. Some of it I think is genuinely geared towards improving the fan experience. Some of it is probably to get new fans - new fans buy stuff. They wouldn't do it if they didn't think it was profitable.

How much of it is actually cutting into true football prep time? I have no idea. It just feels incredibly cringe-worthy to see so much time/effort/money invested into this when the team continues to struggle with the fundamentals. Spanos is content having the "best social media team" as you put it, while being tenants in another man's stadium, all while being an afterthought in one of the largest markets in the country. That's how they view the world.

Thats true every team does have one. But we are 1000 times more active. Its no secret. Its really out heavy. And i think its just too much. Rather they spend that time watching film or getting some extra treatment. Need more balance.

Guess we're both the off-season champs as well as the social media champs!

Bottom line - his record is his record. Period. So I don't care if he hit on "this player" or "that player" - what is the damn record

And he should have been fired three years ago with Anthony Lynn
What's scary is this thread may be alive and well in 2026, when the next head coach is on the hot seat.

Unfortunately, I think the Spanos family believes in Tom Telesco in a similar way to how Art Modell and Steve Bisciotti trusted Ozzie Newsome.

If the team finishes like under .500, even 8-9 -- and Telesco is retained, - you are exactly right. I keep saying it, but I do want Telesco to prove me wrong even though I think he has shown he is woefully incompetent and in over his head - he just hasn't "learned the job."

Yep...I get the impression the Spani are trying to whip up excitement (and sell tickets and PSL's) with this deluge of social stuff...

I think this is vastly overblown as for being a distraction. Having said that, they aren't 1000 times more active than other teams, they are 1000 times more creative and interesting. All teams are doing it each and every week. I work with an obnoxious KC fan and he sends me a non-stop stream of videos and social media all the time, while rubbing my nose in everything for being a Charger fan. It just isn't as good as ours is.

If social media is a distraction, it’s far worse for most of the posters on this forum who are reading and posting about football at work instead of doing their job.

At least professional sports players aren’t on FB or whatever during the game.

But keep it in perspective. There have and always will be “distractions” for professional athletes whether it’s partying, drinking, drugging, or whoring around.

Most are going to know when to buckle down and work their tail off and then there will always be the Johnny Manziels who never grow up.

As we age, we all grow increasingly conservative and judgemental about 20 something year olds and their pursuit of happiness.
