He is getting paid big bucks because he is good at slipping blocks and penetrating in the pass rush line. Liuget is not a great run defender, and great run defenders get paid like crap unless they can rush the passer, so the salary is not a defense for him.

Because that is not what the story was on Monday. Everyone, including most of the idiots who write for the UT and ESPN, plus most of the people on this board seem to think the issue was getting pushed around, which has not been the case with the Chargers run D for a while. Again, maybe the first issue, besides just wanting to bitch about something is to actually figure out what the issue is?

BIG players don't get a lot of penetration, small quick guys do. Sure, the Ngata and Suh's do, but there are like 3 or 4 guys that size with that kind of ability in the whole league. If you really want the DL penetrating and making plays in the backfield, you play a 43. not a 34. Our DL are not penetrating and attacking into the backfield because they are playing in a 34, and not doing it very well at that. Again, unless your name is JJ Watt, or Bruce Smith (who both play 43 DE alignments in a 34 D), no DL are the big play makers in the defensive backfield. That dates back to the 1970's, so we are talking about thousands of players, on hundreds of seasons worth of teams. Maybe it is just time for fans to realize that there are things you can do in a 43 that you cannot do in the 34. Having the DL penetrate and make plays is #1 on the list.

As far as why our run D sucks, it is a lack of discipline and guys playing as individuals, it has NOTHING to do with size. Get bigger players, the issue(s) are still there. Lissemore had a very good game at the point of attack. Unfortunately, nobody else did. DE playing out of their lanes, or not squeezing their lanes down. They also didn't do a good job of getting off of blocks, and the LB had to keep avoiding and/or tacking on blocks which is the whole point of playing the 34 to begin with, is to AVOID the LB taking on blocks. LB added to it by not getting the ball carriers down, either not wrapping up, or wrapping up too high and not getting them to the ground. Secondary guys using awful technique to tackle, and just hit the ball carriers. You can blame the DL if you want, but the entire D shares in this disaster.

Go back and look at the thread, I never said the run D was not a problem. The point to be made is that everyone keeps making suggestions that have nothing to do with the problem. For the moment, we are stuck with the same bunch of guys. The coaches are going to have to get these clowns to shape up, and stop being 11 guys, and start being a single unit. The problem is that the D needs guys who play the D and right now we don't seem to have them, at least not that consistently play the D well. DL needs to work as a unit, keep the LB clean and the secondary needs to force, fill and pursue. That is what good run D is about, not all this other stupid shit that everyone keeps droning on about. BUt a guy here, or a guy there isn't going to help. It takes 11 guys doing it.

Going out and getting a bunch of big sloppy guys just means you have a bunch of big guys who cannot run, or rush the passer, and probably can't play the run either.
we've been seeing this same shit for several seasons now, even with some high draft picks invested and players brought in from outside. At what point does DL coach Don Johnson get some blame for this? Ron Rivera brought him in and we were OK up front Luiget's 1st year- but an undisciplined mess ever since, and yet replacing Johnson never comes up in the offseason.
Life is too short to drink cheap beer

Defensive guys are always out of position and not doing their job when they are getting pushed around like ragdolls. (just kidding, haven't looked at them hard enough to figure out if it's discipline or lack of strength).
      Prediction:
      Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

I heard a stat yesterday that the Chargers are last in the league at 3.4 yards before making contact with a running back.

Need big body Carrethers active this week, we will need extra lineman rotated to keep fresh, Minnesota is going to run Peterson at us hard and often. With Urien being cut I would think this is the week he gets on the field.

I'm hoping Carrethers gets to play and can be a force because this team really needs some help against the run. I'm afraid the Chargers are about to allow the nfl rushing record to be broken again by Peterson against no other than the Chargers last time we played them. The middle LBers on this team are not getting the job done, neither is the Dline.

            See article below:

Kyle Posey breaks down some game tape from the San Diego Chargers' ugly loss to the Cincinnati Bengals before the BFTB staff predicts what will happen this Sunday.

Adrian Peterson is averaging 5.5 yards per touch and he still has that extra gear to accelerate past defenders. Donald Butler is playing better and more aggressive but there are still a few "wtf" plays a game. In two games Manti Te'o has missed 10 tackles. TEN. Advantage, Vikings

Just get up on the Vikings early and force them to abandon the run game.
