RIP - a great Charger. Post the Fouts era, he was maybe the best RT we ever had IMO. Marty had some good influence on personnel and we built a great OL that protected Bree/Rivers and paved the way for LT.

Yes, lot of early deaths. But my observation was that 9 of the players from super bowl team have died. Nine.

          Its kind of scary.

            It's actually 10:

            David Griggs (1995, age 28)

            Rodney Culver (1996, age 26)

            Doug Miller (1998, age 28)

            Chris Mims (2008, age 38)

            Curtis Whitley (2008, age 39)

            Shawn Lee (2011, age 44)

            Lewis Bush (2011, age 42)

            Junior Seau (2012, age 43)

            Courtney Hall (2021, age 52)

            Steve Hendrickson (2021, age 54)

Henderson is the 10th. Downright spooky.

If I recall, wasn't it AcesCasino that did those interviews with the Ohio State alums, and he got in trouble with the one he did with Olivea?
That was Matt Wilhelm. I was up until 1 in the morning waiting for Aces to issue his retraction so I could update the thread before the whole thing blew up in the media. As I recall, the NFL even contacted Aces about it because I think he was a season ticket holder.

To Aces' credit, he fell on the sword and took one for the team.

RIP, Shane. Damn, that's way too young.

Its a tough sport. Anyone sensible would get out after their 2nd contract...or earlier.
                RIP Shane Olivea

Did Shane even complete his rookie deal? I thought they bounced him after his 4rth season and he was in rehab after he had become hooked and was using a lot of pills. I could be wrong but this kid never even made it to a second contract.

This list of young former players (from all NFL teams) dying gets more and more difficult to stomach and more and more depressing the older I get

Culver and Griggs got killed in freak random accidents. Griggs was killed in a giant sinkhole in a miami highway, they tried to say he was drunk but I think his family vindicated his memory and got some kind of settlement from the city or the state of florida. Culver died in the Valujet 592 crash due to improperly packed luggage

how did Lew die? I’m not sure but didn’t bush, mims, and lee all die in car crashes?

All three died from natural causes, their hearts giving out:

Former Chargers linebacker Lew Bush died Thursday of an apparent heart attack, six days after his 42nd birthday.

On October 15, 2008, Mims was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment by police officers conducting a welfare check. The cause of death was determined to be an enlarged heart. He weighed 456 pounds or 207 kilograms at the time of his death. A few years prior to his death, he had suffered a stroke.

Lee, who had been struggling with diabetes for the past few years, died on February 26, 2011 from cardiac arrest brought on by double pneumonia. Lee was 44.

If you do a search on former charger players who seem to have died pretty young I recall there is a lot. I don't know if that's the norm for other teams also....anyone notice that.
