  • Lombardi Called A Bad Game

Overall, the Chargers were magnificent. Especially the D.

Herbert was spectacular too as was the rest of the offense.

The gripe I have was Lombardi didn’t bury the Raiders with the strength of the offense which was Herbert’s arm.

instead, when the Chargers were ahead, Lombardi went in turtle mode to preserve the lead instead of aggressively trying to increase it.

This is exactly what plagued the Chargers in the last. Herbert gets a big lead and Chargers sit on it. Only difference is Chargers didn’t have a great D and teams would come back.

I thought it was deja vu all over again as Yogi would say.

Lombardi sucks. I warned about him before the season started and feel the same now. Staley needs to get on his ass.

Search “Joe Lombardi” on Twitter and read the thread. Many saw what I saw and were pissed too.

Easily might of been Staleys call to be more conservative as I think he believes in his defense and special teams much more this year.

he passed on a 4th and short too when the win probability models said go for it.

I think we got a little too conservative as well & the results of the last several drives seem to back that up. The good news is we can improve on it and it didn't cost us an L to figure it out.

Herbert had 200 yards passing 1st half and 79 second half. That’s all on Lombardi.

Maybe, just maybe they did not want to show more just before KC?

He showed KC that a team can turn the ball over 4 times and still be only 5 points down in the 4th quarter because Lombardi doesn’t know how to go for the jugular like Andy Reid does.

Instead of the Raiders reflecting on this game that they absolutely suck, they will be thinking, “hey, one less turnover and we could have won”

Chargers first 6 drives: 307 yards, 16 first downs, 34 points.

Chargers last 4 drives: 39 yards,1 first down, 0 points.

I think they were playing a bit of the clock at times. Like at the end of the third quarter - got the ball with like 1 plus to go - did two running plays to take it to the fourth quarter. Okay, that makes sense as limiting possessions. But when you don't convert on third down and punt, how much time did you really save

The McKitty drop was a huge play as if he catches that - sets up a manageable third and short . Ekeler was a yard short

So yes I think they got at times too conservative with the run run pass to milk the clock

The Chargers won a huge game. Herbert was perfect. He didn't get sacked once. The offense didn't turn over the ball. Let's enjoy that shall we?

...how many times have we read "we were the better team, but lost".

We won the game versus a hated rival.

I celebrated yesterday, and intend to enjoy every win in what may become a special season !!

Let’s also consider the fact that Keenan went down. Losing your WR1 is going to effect every team’s performance, especially when you’re talking about someone like Keenan who is tops in the league on 3rd downs.
