If Reid had this many injuries the Chiefs would likely be 5-5 or worse even with Mahomes. Take Kelce off the field and everything changes.

Chiefs offense forces defenses to run all over the field on almost every play. You see the fatigue in the 4th quarter. If you dont have depth, due to injuries, KC will score on any defense.
I don't disagree that injuries are a factor somewhat, but even without injuries, we weren't playing particularly well on defense this season, and that can be extrapolated all the way to last season. We've been bottom of the league in most important categories the past two seasons, even with the personnel changes this year. For a defensive mind, Staley hasn't adapted to circumstances, meanwhile, Ejiro Evero as DC for the Broncos has made the necessary adjustments to the same scheme Staley and Fangio run, and has had runaway success -- so coaching matters. I still there is a deficiency in our coaching staff ranks, and there needs to be turnover there to see different results. It all starts with Renaldo Hill who's specialty has been the secondary, and there hasn't been much improvement there from a coverage standpoint, with even the basic fundamentals lacking like tackling in all of the defensive units and that trickles down to the ineptitude in most of the defensive position coaches on staff. On offense, everyone already knows Lombardi's tendencies and the play calling isn't particularly creative, so a change would be apropos there, but that's just my opinion.

Staley has had hits on some coaching hires here like Shaun Saurrett, the Oline coach, who has done an admirable job considering the circumstances, this last game notwithstanding, and Ryan Ficken, the ST coach. Sadly, we lost Frank Smith to the Dolphins who's the OC there now, and he was our run game coordinator/Oline coach last season. So I think Staley can find the necessary coaching talent, but he needs to think outside the box and be less loyal to the people around him.

5 guys that can all get after the QB but a few of them like Parsons, Lawrence and Armstrong that can line up in multiple positions.
Could have traded a 4th round pick for Robert Quinn - the Bears were paying his salary.

Zero desire to improve the roster post injuries

This team plays hard for Staley. The Chargers are close. Don’t forget Herbert did not have a TE last night and Mike Williams is still out. With MW and Everett playing the Chargers would have won. If the Chargers and Chiefs meet in the playoffs and MW, Everett and Bosa are back, and there’s not another rash of significant injuries, the Chargers will win.

          That is wrong.
          That is an oxymoronic statement.

You don't think I'm a Chargers fan because I'm all in on the support of recent Chargers HCs. I have been more critical of Spanos and Telesco ability to build a winner. I think Lynn and Staley know more about football than the GM and Owner. So I trust those HCs much more than front office people.

Lynn went 33-31 for Chargers, transitioned to a new city and new QB. I have a lot of respect for what he did. IMO he did enough to earn another year.
Staley is 14-13 for Chargers. He changed offensive and defensive schemes when he arrived and has being adding personnel to play his style. It's way too soon for me to give up on this new HC.

In your mind, if I joined the panic on every unsuccessful play and showed up with pitchfork, said the OC sucks, the DC sucks, the HC sucks, fire them all!!!! That means I'm a fan???

Im all in on hiring Payton. But that won't happen.
So firing Staley is just rearrangement of chairs that doesn't make damn bit of difference. And is just as likely to move things backward than forward. The Chargers need to build a dominate defensive front 7 and dominate OLine to beat the Chiefs and that is Telesco job. Good thing Staley is here, he wants to be a line of scrimmage team and the off season moves have proved that to be very true. The injury to the line of scrimmage players this year is impacting the team, but the HC refuses to use it as an excuse.

I'm definitely All in with Staley vision and direction of this team. No matter how the rest of year goes, IMO he has already earned year 3 to continue to build his program.

Who has it better than us?

I could see Staley wanting to do it.
But Spanos and Telesco telling him no.

Yes, a real passionate fan. You're just a rational, logical fan somewhat like myself and that's no damn fun.

I will agree that "the OC sucks, the DC sucks, the position coaches suck, fire them all!!!!", so I hope I still get to keep my Chargers fan membership card.

                This.

Kansas City went 75 yards in 75 seconds, culminating in the winning TD. I asked Kelce why it worked so flawlessly.

It's not how they scored, but how quickly and how little resistance was put up.
Its a head coach/ DC sitting back, content to not take any risks.

Does Staley take stock of analytics with anything other than 4rth down plays?

I agree, there is a small group of intimates that he prefers to use to bring in coaches, which greatly restricts the options.

However, Staley had enough quality players to not be among the worst on defense last year:

Bosa, James, Nwosu, White, Jones, a few decent corners.
                    Chris Harris Jr. was a disaster, and they for some reason greatly depended on him in their off season scheme;

Pags did more on less in 2013.

Joseph should have been a sturdy rotational guy....don't play him so much.
That was my comment before the season. You can't bring in a few competent DTs to complement him?

I put that on Telesco and Staley. Like last year with DTs, they are completely unmotivated this year to turn over every rock to bring one in.
Give up a day 3 draft pick that you routinely waste on draft day.

                      .
Exactly. Jerry Hughes from the Texans. Did they even call and offer a 5th round pick.
                      Linval Joseph
Wide Receivers for the San Fran game when they were starting Bandy, Moore and Carter.

The lack of urgency to win. It has to come from Spanos not wanting to spend the money

Tomorrow - Field Yates will put out a list of "tryouts by team" - the Chargers won't be on it. They weren't last week

                        I would agree.

It is something consistent with Telesco under his 10 years. He doesn't bring in anyone after the season begins.
Bringing in a kicker and kick returner were his limits. They helped.

But then again, Staley wants guys that 'fit' his defense. He made a great commotion about it this offseason.
So much for the guy who said he developed his defense around the particular skills of his players.
That guy is long gone, much like the defensive genius label. Its now clear that what they designed didn't
fit Nwosu's special talents. Robert Quinn might not have fit what Staley wants.

Bringing in Chris Chambers during the season got the Chargers to the AFC championship game 15 years ago.

Suh had an impact for the Eagles. After the injuries, John Spanos and Telesco robbed Chargers of any chance to compete with this absolute shit DL.

KC was running through gaping holes play after play. I was wondering why they even bothered to pass.
