I don't think they were impressed enough to pay him big bucks and the fact he only got a 1 year prove contract should tell you a lot there. The chiefs picked him up as a 1 year scout.
Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

Explain why Kendricks doesn't count. Wasn't he a FA and didn't we sign him? The guys we didn't sign that were with the Chargers
last year but were FAs this year count. So as of now we are not getting a comp pick. That can change because FA is not over.

Yes, that will help too. Chargers need upgrade in three areas on defense

          1) health of certain players
          2) coaching and scheme of said players
          3) a bit of roster turnover to improve a couple positions.

And for the third, if thats Kendrick and say JJ3 - I think thats solid. Just have to hope for a bit better health and a helluva lot better coaching

Right, Edge in the draft to go along with TE and WR in the draft because Rumph, McKitty and Palmer are not cutting it.

Eric Kendrick was released -- so he is not part of the formula for comp picks. The only true FA the Chargers lost was Tranquil and he may or may not be worthy of a comp pick based on salary. If so, it will be a 7th rounder

Similar to what happened to Kyzir who then got a better deal after that 1 year prove it deal with the Eagles

We still signed a bunch of our own FAs and those do count. But thanks about Kendrick, I thought he was a FA.

He was cut by the Vikings, he’s not a qualified free agent so the Vikings can’t get a comp for losing him because he was still under contract…likewise on the other side of things he doesn’t count against our comp formula…

no, if you resign your own people they won’t count against you
