Christian McCaffrey is 205 pounds, so I can be more than happy with Gibbs if he performs to that level.
Gibbs won't be a workhorse type though. He will be what Ek is and Ek is wanting somebody to share the load so they would be a RB tandem. Which isn't a bad thing.

RB is one of our deepest positions. Last place I would use 1st rounder.

        ???

After Ekeler all those guys are meh. Yeah, they take up roster spots, but if we cut all of them, would any other team sign any of them? Maybe Kelley, maybe. Not depth.

I haven't wanted a RB in the 1st in years. Was not at all happy taking Melvin Gordon and didn't like taking Ryan Mathews but Bijon looks like a real game changer. If he is there which I'm sure he won't be ya gotta grab the BPA with your first pick and he'd be it.

                Agreed.

However, this is a deep RB class. Doubt he lasts until Chargers draft slot anyway? Really wish Telesco had more draft capital to work with so I’m afraid it’s going to be more of that stick and pick strategy, which is maddening when you see one of your targeted picks go off just a couple picks before Chargers selection. That was certainly the case last year. Year before got lucky first two rounds then just went off the board……….

Speaking of boards here is Bruglers RB rankings
                1. Bijan Robinson

I don't know much about his health last year: i'm suspecting he is far from special.

Take away the rose colored spectacles and his talent did not overcome his pass protection and special teams issues: so he rarely suited up.
Remember, they kept on feeding the ball to Larry Rountree at the end in that blow out win over the Rams: Spiller was activated, no?

Assume that he is not the answer until informed otherwise.

Its valid questions. And again, what is not happening in the scouting of the player or the coaching of the player that so many players rounds 3-5 just do not make an impact.

This is the problem and the Denver game would have been a good opportunity to shed some light on it.

as for posts saying we don’t need an RB I don’t think you could watch the chargers in 2022 and come away with that conclusion. We needed a #2 to pair with Ek desperately last season and are just as desperate going into 2023.

whether it’s 1st round or not depends but TT has not shown the ability to identify and draft and RB in mid or late rounds. Other teams do but we don’t. It’s like OL. He drafted a plethora of guys in mid rounds but it wasn’t until he took Slater at 13 that he hit on one.

That's fair. Spiller was ranked #2 in a weak RB draft class. Had nice college tape. I think he was the youngest guy in the draft.
They're holding him back for a reason. We'll get more input, pro or con maybe by the draft, probably by OTAs, for sure by training camp. Moore is his best chance to get on the field.

Good point about the Denver game - really could have used that game better.

But yes, the Chargers do need a running back to pair with Ekeler. I get it starts with blocking but is Kelley the guy - he doesn't seem fast enough. Maybe it will be Spiller --
