The original Tweet said they “plan” to do that. I think they still need to interview external candidates if it’s an NFL requirement.

Why? Ansley is black so no Rooney rule required, if that's what you mean. And if you know you want to promote from within, it's a stupid rule and a waste of people's time.

Rooney Rule apparently requires you to interview at least two external minority candidates as well. Covington is a good scouting interview at least since we play NE again next season.

Edit: I think they do this so teams can’t just interview someone internally first to fulfill the rule, therefore circumventing it, and then get the DC outside.

I feel this shouldn’t be on personal feelings towards a guy. I suggested Rex Ryan cause I felt he would be the right defensive coordinator we needed a super bowl winning defensive coordinator. Not a great head coach a great coordinator. Chargers messed it up. I like the hire. But it your trying to win rings put that shit aside. Look at the cowboys before Dan Quinn. Great coordinators matter because they put players in great positions to succeed.
