I wonder how many players and fans in attendance have fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who served in the U.S. expeditionary force in Germany in 1944-45 and later the occupation force. Frankfurt was taken by Patton’s Third Army in late March 1945. My dad was liberated from a camp a few hundred miles north near Bremen a month later. Frankfurt was heavily bombed by the Allies during the war. They still find unexplored ordnance in Frankfurt today.
