It was the only way to put Cleveland at #1 even with their NFL Championship coming a year after our AFL title.

Buffalo and San Diego only have AFL Championships and at least 2 major sports franchises. Jacksonville and Nashville and Tampa and Oklahoma City have nothing I don't think

Kevin Garnett : "Anything is possible!"

A lot of my buddies are Cavs fans as I went to school in Ohio. I felt really good for them last night. I hope one day we can have that feeling. I'll probably bawl my eyes out when/if it ever happens.

Tampa does... they won a super bowl in Qualcomm.

I agree, he essentially had to create a new statistic that really is an invalid one - you're talking about summing up seasons between cities where some have more teams than others. And his story is already being used as a reference by other equally intellectually lazy "journalists". It would've been much easier to simply state that San Diego has the longest pro franchise championship drought, but he wouldn't be able to come up with this angle so he invented this "statistic".

Seasons without major pro sport title

            San Diego 109 (52 Chargers, 47 Padres, 6 Clippers, 4 Rockets)
            Buffalo 103
            Minneapolis 91
            Milwaukee 90
I would think the futility of the Chicago Cubs (IIRC, they last won in 1909) alone would put Chicago at the top of any such list? What gives?

If you're just measuring franchises the Cubs reign over everyone.

After the Bolts leave, I'll have no more pros to root for. And life will go on and probably be better and less frustrating.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Not sure you'll get off that easy.

Bears last won in 1985, Bulls last won in 1998.

The White Sox did win rather recently by comparison (2005) so I guess that rules them out on the futility scale.

That may be true, but I dumped the Pads and think the Bolts could follow with just a little more effort.

As for national championships, I have them with the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Colts and Maryland Terps. They're fun to have, but overrated.
