yes, he made some key plays on that long drive that ate 8 minutes off the clock in the 4rth qtr, I guess he doesn't get credit though because he didn't throw a TD but still, that drive was clutch and pretty much put the nail in the coffin for the jets...as for his 3/4 delivery, part of the problem is he's been staring down receivers the last couple of years, PR probably had an even lower delivery and didn't get as many batted down but when you develop bad habits as a QB the D-linemen in the NFL are just too good not to pick up on it...herbert could use more shoulder fakes to throw guys timing on batted balls off, crazy as it sounds even in year four herbert still has a ton of room for improvement even as good as he already is, he could use an experienced NFL QB coach to help polish his game even further..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. Listen to Colin Cowherd's analysis here. He opines that Herbert last night demonstrated the difference between an elite QB and a non-elite QB. Herbert, broken finger, down two of his top 3 WRs, bad O-line play, against a really good defense. He didn't look great, but he converted half his third downs, had a crucial scramble to keep a drive alive, did what he needed to ensure the win. What Herbert did is the mark of an elite QB. Zach Wilson, on the other hand, was up against what is statistically the worst pass defense in the NFL, and was so atrocious he couldn't get his team in the end zone at home in front of a stadium filled with Jets fans.Originally posted by charger1_sj View Post
It's not debatable. All three of the QBs you mentioned took more chances than Herbert and that's why they had the interceptions.
You can easily see this just based on the stats.
Herbert didn't take as many chances and yet still should have had at least 2 interceptions and one lost fumble. I think you just want
to defend Herbert. He obviously did not play a good game and we kept it more conservative due to Moore's understanding the Jets
D was killing us. Nothing to do with Herbert.

as usual my biggest concern going into the lions game will not be herbert and the offense, it will be our inconsistent defense, they looked great against a patchwork offensive line but the Lions might have one of the best O-LINES in the league, how are they going to look against those guys?Originally posted by charger1_sj View Post
We did not manage 20 points on offense. The D gave the offense the ball at the Jets 2 yard line. Credit the D not the offense. The only drive of note
for the Chargers came after the D turned the ball over at the 50 yard line. Credit the offense for driving 50 yards and getting that TD.
Our offense really scored 13 points and that after a couple turnovers. We punted 8 times. Not a great offensive display, of course with the caveat
that it came against probably the best D in the NFL.
The offense will have to do better than 13 points against the Lions, and I expect they will. The Lions D is good but they are not the Jets.
I read somewhere that herbert is 28-6 when his defense holds the opposing offenses under 20 points, the kid has never had even an average defense, he finally has a decent O-line, if only our defense could live up to their billing of high profile and highly paid players...been saying for awhile now, the #1 reason I am out on Staley is that he has failed to turn this into an elite defense like Saleh has in NY..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. man the o-line cant even be called decent anymore. they cant run block for shit and herbert seems to be getting less and less time back there. but I think the stat was more like if his D held the opponents to less than 25 or 27 points...CRAZY that you have that win percentage when your D plays even mediocre.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

Our defense looks much improved, thanks to our front seven. K9 is playing downhill attacking the running lanes instead of wait and reacting. Big difference there.
Our run D looks much better since we now are mostly healthy and have decent backups. Tuli is making a big impact. The question marks remain our DBs.
There is some talent there for sure. Maybe Staley has finally figured it out.
For me what was impressive last night was the tackling, night and day from earlier in the year.

Yes, you pay what you can to keep your franchise QB. It’s just the market rate for QBs currently. Daniel Jones is mediocre and he got $40 million annually. What we’re paying Herbert now is essentially the same as what was paid to Rivers back in 2009. Market rate dictates things until the NFL value collapses.Originally posted by jamrock View PostIf they hadn’t paid Herbert would you still want them to? He’s not a $52m guy to me

You should also be concerned about our offense. Now we have another WR out and a inconsistent O line.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

So we would have won 13 - 6 right? Football is a team game.....offense, defense and special teams. Two of the three were pretty stellar last night and the O did their part too. I LOVED that field goal drive to end the first half.....that defense was a mother and the O did what they had to do and put up a three.Originally posted by charger1_sj View Post

Takes from last night by a tired old ex San Diegan.
Tuli is a beast and combining him with Mack & JB REALLY makes me happy for the rest of this season.
That catch by Keenan was one of the prettiest catches I have ever seen. His body control and torque to flip over in the air and secure that catch??? That shit is truly God given talent.....there is simply no other explanation.
I am so glad that I had Darius Davis in my cluster and that TT listened.
Speaking of TT.....I will throw a little love where there has been thrown a LOT of shade. Alohi Gilman makes this defense better and last night my impression was that he made them a lot better. He was injured and the D sputtered pretty hard. The kid is playing some great ball. Not bad for a 6th round pick.
That drive at the end of the half to nab 3 points was EPIC versus that defense. It's what we really needed and the O went out and got it. Of course that was after the D ground the Jets into a 3 and out with only 18 seconds or so coming off the clock. THAT was a peek at winning football IMHO.
Lots of folks dogging the O today, but that Jets defense was NO FREAKING JOKE. It was a three phase win as all three phases succeeded ,,,,,,some more that others but it lead to a W.!!!

Also the offense did score 20 points despite what he may choose to ignore. Just because it’s from the two yard line doesn’t mean that it does not count for the offense. Credit the defense for getting the turnover. But also credit the OL and Ekeler for still punching it in despite making it look easy.Originally posted by La Costa Boy View Post
