It is costing the Chargers nothing to stay here this season. They still get to play in the Q for free, they still get full use of the practice facility for free, and by staying one more year they knock $3M off their exit fee. In the process they preclude Kronke from selling PSLs and naming rights for his new digs in LA and that can be extended for one more year after this one. The Rams are likely to suck this year and LA is much like SD, they don't support losing teams. The value he is expecting from PSLs may not be quite what he expects after a couple of losing seasons in the Coliseum.

Brees was very good, and, once he left us, turned out to be a Hall of Famer. He, however, would have been a backup or cut from the team if Rivers had been signed on time. Two years later, Rivers would have been an NFL veteran instead of a virtual rookie.
