I know Harbaugh will never throw his players under the bus, but that press conference today was ridiculous. When multiple reporters were pressing on legitimate issues his comments came off as nonsensical. Embarrassing stuff.
Jim Harbaugh - Head Coach Of Our Chargers

He doesn't seem to be present, it's more like he's comfortable and content with delegating his duties to his coaches downline entrusting them to resolve issues. At this point, he needs to step in, watch tape, spend time in the OL/LB rooms and get more involved in practices to grade out his coaches and players. Delegating is fine when you have competent coaching, but that seems to be lacking more and more as the weeks go on.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View PostI know Harbaugh will never throw his players under the bus, but that press conference today was ridiculous. As for Harbaugh's comments, no one can honestly say that this OLine even showed any kind of fight -- there were guys giving up on blocks, others seemingly took liberty to make their own assignments and help block where it wasn't needed, etc. That falls on Devlin's coaching and Bozeman's vision or lack thereof. Bozeman is simply not seeing the field and calling the proper protections, and his play degrades the interior play around him. On the flip side, Henley is still fried from his illness, he's a step or two too slow and he's wearing the green dot -- that needs to be taken away from him for now as the breakdowns in coverage and overall communication issues seem to be stemming partly from his burnout. Henley is essential to this defense, obviously -- if he's a step or two behind, then so is everyone else playing next to or behind him seemingly, so he needs some sort of recovery time because his level of play since that flu game has been reminiscent of Kenneth Murray's lackluster performances.
All in all, there needs to be changes, or Herbert is going to get bruised and battered even more so than he is now. I doubt there are more than 2 coaches that Herbert trusts on the offense, other than his friend Shane Day and Sanjay Lal.Last edited by jaguarmanftype; 10-20-2025, 01:57 AM.

in today's "we need blood today" reaction to stuff. i don't see the need for Harbaugh to bash the defense and o-line at the press conference. that is not going to help anything.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View PostI know Harbaugh will never throw his players under the bus, but that press conference today was ridiculous. that stuff might please the internet crowd (message boards and YouTube comments) but it won't be productive for actually improving the team.
we played a good team today. they are 6-1 for a reason, and we almost clawed our way back into it after a shitty first half.
he was emphasizing the positive, which was that the team held together and nearly made a game of it. it ends up sounding a little cheap to focus on something like that, but i think there is thought behind his approach.

The fire and pitchfork approach helps nothing because there's really nothing that can be done about being on your 3rd string OL. We are literally running out of 60 and 70 jersey numbers to hand out. No team is trading an All Pro caliber OL mid-season. More than likely any teams that are sellers need a QB next off-season so why would they get rid of a top notch player to protect him. Furthermore, blaming Hortiz for not having 10 Pro Bowl OLs is spitting into the wind. At some point continuing to bitch about this means you just like mucus in your face.Originally posted by northerner View Post

I want Harbaugh to stop coddling Herbert and challenge him in the meeting room and during practices to find ways to create time to throw downfield. Time to "Harness Realities of How O-Line Works". Less time in the pocket, most of his time doing "intentional" rollouts & bootlegs. And run more initiating the contact.
Herbert is supposed to be so f----ing smart and rapid processor, time he calls his own plays. Limit Roman to provide him menus of plays for situations.

He always does that. He will never trash any players or coaches in the media nor tip his hands on what he really thinks happened and what needs to be addressed. Those pressers are useless.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View PostI know Harbaugh will never throw his players under the bus, but that press conference today was ridiculous. I get it. But the way he talks about Justin, Derwin, and others is like they can do no wrong. These aren’t Greek Gods. They are humans with flaws that need to be coached.Originally posted by richpjr View Post

What really has nagged me is Harbaugh always sounds like Forrest Gump. I never hear anything very intelligible, just rah rah platitudes that sound childish.
At least I hear more intelligent specifics from Roman and Minter.

I was thinking of Chauncey the Gardner but Forrest Gump works too. He has a list of platitudes that he spews out but definitely looks lost up there. Searching for something to say. Shell shocked.Originally posted by Riverwalk View Post

Not a good year for the Harbaugh brothers

Yes, I can hear Harbaugh say that.
One of my top 10 films of all time and Sellers last completed film, a role for which he received and Oscar nomination.

I am not asking him to bash players. The hero worship schtick really is not coming off well anymore. He is coming across as a man without solutions.Originally posted by northerner View Post

His words about supporting Justin Herbert have no meaning because he has no actions.
I understand the o line situation is dire and no one is offering us free tackles but what does it take for Mike Devlin and Bradley Bozeman to be replaced?? What more does he need to see from these 2 individuals? Earth to Jim...something isnt working!

I think you can avoid bashing players, mention a few positives without the weird hero worship schtick about what amazing warriors guys like Bozeman are after getting his QB killed every week and just getting their asses handed to them...againOriginally posted by northerner View Post

It just came across as especially weird yesterday when reporters were asking him for direct, legit questions. it wasnt just Popper, Rihm and others were on top of of it. I guess maybe the weird stuff is amusing when they are winning but is getting annoying as they have lost 3 of 4 save barely beating woeful Miami who Cleveland just crushed.
He is coming across as a guy without answers as he just does the same stuff each week in a few real problem areas with no one being held accountable.
People are feeling the need to bash the besieged 250 million dollar QB...fair enough. Well it is legitimately time for some heat on the 16 million dollar a year coach. We all know where the buck stops.

Im not worried about it. What do you want him to say? Im sure he isnt happy about it. He isnt going to say the OL is awful when we know it is. Nobody on the OL yesterday played well. It is really weird tho to see a poster say he has some cognitive issues. He is imo just trying to think of the words to say that isnt negative while not giving anything away. Not sure what we want. His way or the Billichick way?Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View PostI know Harbaugh will never throw his players under the bus, but that press conference today was ridiculous. Im not worried about Harbaugh. The only thing i dont like is him keeping Bozeman in to play. Is James really worse?
