We don’t have to push a ton, just a wee bit.

so doesn't include two draft classes (24 and 25)
and the rest of the roster - so another 20 or so players at the minimum level

The money will go fast...So pretty much starting at 125 Linsley retires
if you sign Allen to a multi year deal - subtract 20+ maybe 25m
i you sign Mack longer term - that is another 20- 25
Slater Palmer and Samuel are free agents so not listed - how much is that - another 20m for all three - maybe 15m
two draft classes plus the 53 player roster - another 40m

      - you are down to what:
25-30m left over - and that doesn't include players you might sign this year to multi year deals
That is not much different from a lot of teams. The Chargers have the 13th most cap space in 2025 so far. Of the 12 teams in front of them, only one team has more than 29 players under contract so we are where most teams are. The Chiefs, for example, have 21 players under contract for '25 and are $97 million under the cap and they are the model of how to run a team in the 2020's.

I like the Fitz model for Mack if they are keeping him - even if you bump a little to 2025. Pay him in 2025 off of 2024 - if he blows it out of the water - thats good - here is some more cash big fella! Even if thats 28-30m next year.
        Yes.
Except the year he played 7 games. He has been named All pro or Prow bowl. 9 of 10 seasons. I will bet on that, the cap is going up. They can easily handle the number in 2026 if they have to cut bait.

I don't like the idea of don't keep your best and most consistent front 7 player. Hall of famer. Because I'm afraid of the possible cost that comes due. Many teams navigated much worse cap situations when things don't work out and still remain competitive. I think Hortiz isn't afraid of extending Mack into 2026.
Who has it better than us?

Chargers need to have a 2017 draft like the Saints in thsi draft

Followed up in 2025 like a Lions 2023 draft

I'm pretty certain Derwin will be much better under Minter.
I must have misread Spotrac - I thought he was a FA in 2025?

I think a lot of posters underestimate how much Staley and his moronic scheme retarded DJ’s progress. He most likely will be back to All Pro next year.

With MW and Kendricks not being released yet , you think Hortiz is working on trades for them? Only one can wish.

Mack is 38mil against cap for 2024. If they trade him they have a 15 mil hit and 23 savings.
Doesn't a 2 year extending at like 20mil per make it a 28mil against cap in 2026, which is 10mil less than his current number. And if cut him then, wouldn't that be 20mil saved and 9mil dead. So a 9mil risk on hall of famer Mack. That is easily worth it. IMV.
