Salyer LT. The best avail RG at RG behind Becton.

An extra blocker in the backfield CHIP the 1st guy in. Herbert anticipates sidestepping the rusher on the RT side. We good till Alt returns.

I agree with that proposition. Salyer at LT with help from Fisk is the best case scenario, especially if Becton plays. Deculus can back up Pipkins and Becton in an emergency. Scott Matlock can be inactive or on rotation with Fisk.

Trade Ladd AND Trade Ottito Ogbonia DT, (inactive alot) for a good OT!!!

Tre can take Ladd's spot. OR...get him some marriage counseling.

The only ones who worked out were Mike Pouncey and Corey Linsley, and both were short term.

Hortiz and Harbaugh have been here only a year-and-a-half, and they signed Becton, Bozeman, and Andre James. Becton was the only big-time investment there, but even that was low risk with a two-year contract, due to his history. They drafted Branson Taylor in the sixth round. He was a tackle in college and they switched him to guard. I don't think it's a huge shock that a sixth-round pick switching positions is on the practice squad, but some have already chalked him up as a failed pick.

I'm not sure what Hortiz and Harbaugh could have done differently during that time. There was no Zack Martin or Quenton Nelson when they were picking fifth overall last year, and this past April, Tyler Booker and Grey Zabel were selected before Hortiz and Harbaugh took Hampton, who looks like the real deal. Donovan Jackson went four picks after Hampton. I don't think it would have been wise to take Jackson over Hampton. I'm not sure Jackson will be any better than Zion. Some here were screaming for Will Fries, but from what I've been reading, he hasn't done any better in Minnesota than Zion is right now for us. Fries also missed 12 games last season. Doesn't sound like a guy I would want to sign for five years, $87.7 million, which is what the Vikings did.

I'm all for investing in the interior offensive line, and I'm sure Hortiz and Harbaugh are, too. I think they will when they find prospects or free agents they feel can be studs there. Unfortunately, I don't think there have been any available for them to grab, unless you consider someone like the undrafted, 5-11, 288-pound Willie Lampkin, who was another weird favorite on this forum. He was available, the Eagles took him on after the Rams dropped him following the preseason, and then Philadelphia placed him on injured reserve two days after signing him. So, yeah, there really hasn't been much, if anything.
Tate Ratledge in Rd2 - he's got a 74 PFF so far (but much lower for pass at 55). but that is 100% hindsight, we/they didn't know Q would emerge as not just playable but as a WR1.

Rd3: Dylan Fairchild was first OG taken Rd3, he's got a 52 PFF grade but 65 pass block in 115 pass block snaps. Wyatt Milum is the next OG taken and I dont' think he's seen the field yet. a couple folks flagged Wyatt in the pre-draft discussions, I don't recall a mention of Fairchild.

It wasn't a great IOL draft year. I pounded my keyboard for Joe to sign a couple of the mid-level FAs out there. no pro bowl locks but ... ? eh ... we are what we are now, we roll.
Justin Herbert is Elite. Ride or Die ...

Seems to be less and less good IOL every draft. You have to be picking higher for Gs nowdays almost the same as tackles because good ones that are obvious even with limited scouting are hard to come by. I'm not sure how Green Bay does it with their scouting, but they seem to find gems in the dumpster rounds -- I suppose it could be a combination of scouting specific traits and coaching.

Put it this way when the Chargers were on the clock in round 2 guess who was on the board and got drafted right after the Tre Harris pick...

I like the plan. And you mention chip the first guy in - I would even be okay with chipping both edges - if need be on the way out -

But the key should be maximizing the time for Herbert to not get hit and complete a pass. Ladd and KA will get open if there is time

Agreed, chip both sides. Even if it takes the TE out as a passing option, you can use Hampton to sneak out of the backfield and be the outlet receiver. On occasion, you can have one of the TEs chip and slide out for targets.

Tre Harris looks like he can't get separation out there. Out of all the WRs, wasn't he the one projected to be most NFL ready?

                    Time will tell.

I have no confidence in Roman or the OL coach. An 80/20 pass/run ratio in yesterday's game was inexcusable. I don't know if Najee's injury influenced it but you have a young bull with burst and he should be getting more carries. Especially yesterday. The Zion at C experiment in camp was a failure and these guys still have difficulty picking up stunts. Salyer did better at OT than Deculus ever will. We'll see if they pull out some 2022 game tape. Becton is not giving us what we needed.

Girlfriends and Wives seem to come up frequently as the problem.

Is there any evidence celibate monks can catch and block better before I write a suggestion letter to Harbaugh on behalf of the forum?

My ideal plan if the OTs need help would be something like this
                          QJ, Allen and Ladd
                          Hampton
                          Fisk
Using Fisk as an extra blocker to help the blind side of Herbert.
Like you said, if they want to use Hampton to chip and escape - that works too

                          Second option
                          Fisk or Dissly and Gadsden
and either three WRs or two WR and Hampton

but both TEs chip and release late in the pattern
