If they can keep Bosa and Mack, good. If they cost $$$, so what? Top EDGEs do (and however much I’ve bagged on Joey, he’s mostly a top EDGE when he’s on the field, not gonna throw that baby out with the bath water for eating cornflakes - if we can afford him).

Because Joey Bosa is an injury prone player who has missed 20 games over the last two seasons! His contract isn't worth the risk anymore! Trade him and draft Verse, Chop Robinson or Trice! This would give us younger players who would be hungry and could grow in our new system! We can't afford to eat up this much money on a player that won't play but a few games! Mack would be ok but again it probably is better to go younger at this point.Originally posted by blueman View PostIf they can keep Bosa and Mack, good. If they cost $$$, so what? And just like that Chargers are almost under the cap.
Linsley and the new cap increase.
Now what is Chargers Nation going to fret about?

Eventually the cap hit has to come due unless either of them agrees to a pay cut (no chance).Originally posted by Chargers8491 View PostDon't see why people are so hard up on trading Bosa and Mack. If they can restructure and get under the cap then why not? You can still draft a DE which is probably the way to go even if you keep both.
If we were an SB contender, yeah I'd kick the can down the road for another shake, but if we're not right there then it's best to cut bait now and eat the cap hit (we're also eating the JC Jackson dead cap hit this year) rather than handcuff future years.
Mack's in his final year of his deal, so I'd probably just leave it as is unless you desperately need the space as you'd need an extension or void years to lower his cap hit. He's 33 now so any extension after this year would be risky.
Bosa is due 36 mil this year and 33 mil next year. If you could guarantee his health he is worth it, but he's played a full season 3 times in 8 years, and started 9 games total the past 2 years.
If you look at pretty much every team to make the conference finals or SB, they largely remain healthy in regards to their big cap value guys, otherwise they don't make it.
It's the same reason Mike Williams is also probably a goner. Together those 2 (Bosa and MW) combine for 69 mil of cap space and cutting both would be enough to get us enough cap room for the draft class.
Probably another few moves also need to be made if they want to bring in any non-bargain basement free agents.

If they like to drop the edges in coverage then neither one of them should be doing that lol.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View PostI’ll just leave this here …
They would need to draft someone like Edggerin Cooper who plays ILB and on the Edge for Texas A&M.
He is only listed at 230 for now but he flies around the ball and was excellent when used as a spy against Alabama QB Milroe from both positions. Very quick and athletic,. ... could drop in coverage.

Cut MW and Kendricks and we are under the cap. But Linsleys savings don't kick in till after June 1. Not sure if that will count as being cap compliant by March 13.Originally posted by OG619FrightninLightnin View PostAnd just like that Chargers are almost under the cap.

If not then have to extend Keenan.

Fans count. Win now. Push reasonable cap charges down the road. But build on the enthusiasm the Bolts have generated with their new staff and win now. That’s how you build a fan base. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

according to the bozos on NFL live, the raiders are targeting Jayden Daniels from LSU so don't se how they manage that without a BIG trade up...Originally posted by Critty View PostThis cap space panic is nonsense
Currently, Chargers have 22 players under contract for 2025. With 112mil in cap space for 2025.
And have only 8 players under contract for 2026.
200mil in cap space.
And that before the cap increases
Extension for Mack and Allen don't kill roster construction at all. It does help 2024 cap space where current is over 25mil last checked.
Bosa and Williams should be cut or traded, but I posted that last year right after the Jax loss. They were brought back at top dollar by Telesco and went to IR which was the main reason I didn't want them which was availability issue for that price.
Joe Hortiz draft will be a master class on roster construction vs Tommy RaiTurd Telescan't draft. I bet anyone the Turds trade up this draft."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. The biggest part of the Linsley savings (10.2mil) already kicked in, don't forget that before the big cap increase we had already gone from 47mil OTC to 36mil OTC, then the big cap increase kicked it down to 22mil OTC, the remaining part of Linsley's cap savings is only 1.2mil which will become official after he announces his retirement post June 1st...Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post

the Kendricks cut should be a done deal, that takes the chargers down to like 15.5mil OTC, then they have the option to extend Keenan with maybe a couple of void years (I think he's nearing retirement) which could erase the rest of the cap deficit...after that a similar extension for Mack and the probable MWs cut would clear another 35mil in cap space...then they can still restructure both Derwin and Herbert to add 13mil more to the pot...they could have 48mil in cap space and do nothing with Bosa's contract and in that scenario they only push some 15mil into dead cap for next year on Mack and KA and they only lose MW and Kendricks...this would help to ease the pressure on Hortiz to fill all of those holes with just this one draft...and I know you don't like the idea of pushing dead cap into next year but 15mil in dead cap will still net us a positive 10mil gain in dead cap in 2025 from the 26mil they have this year after the JC Jackson fiasco..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. The cap increase has really changed the tone around here from cut everyone to keep everyone, LOL...Originally posted by blueman View PostIf they can keep Bosa and Mack, good. Yeah, it's always best to keep as much as you can especially if the new coaching staff still wants these players...My understanding of minter's system was that he likes smaller faster edge guys that can cover and neither Joey nor Mack fit that description...but if he wants them that just tells me that his scheme is "player versatile" and can be modified to fit the type of guys on the roster...
besides, clearing up like 30 mil in cap space just by extending Mack and KA is not going to mortgage the future cap...your still pushing less dead cap into 2025 than what they currently have this year....in addition to the cap savings for 2024 they could still save another 27mil by cutting MWs and Kendricks...two extensions and two cuts and the chargers have 47mil in cap space before free agency and that's without modifying Joey's deal..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post.
