    Salaries
    Mack $23M
    Bosa $22M
    Allen $23M
    Williams $20M

But in any case something needs to be done. We won't have them on the roster with those salaries. Likely some will be release or traded
    if not all four.
touché, but it is semantics. for a cap analysis - salary and cap hit are the same to me. i put this together to see for myself how bad it was, and it's bad.

for an outsider like hortiz, he has to be sharpening the blade.

How a team can survive when their 2 WRs and 2 Edgs have to be replaced ?

in our case, one WR and one EDGE are hurt a lot, so it is not as difficult as it sounds.

when factoring in age and injury history, a top 5 pick provides a quick fix for one of those areas. probably an instant increase.

        Nabors? Turner? count me in.

I dont think Bosa and Mack, who are 4-3 DEs, really fit the BAL D either which was more a 3-4 hybrid. Bosa has been injured too much to be, when he signed his deal , the highest paid DE in the league. He missed 10 games in 2022 and 8 last year. Ultimately that was a bad deal for the LAC.

Thank the other 3 for their work too esp MAck, think they work out something for KA , but if the economics and fit are better w their releases ,that is just business. Looking forward to a Joe Hortiz roster too even if it means some tough love slate cleaning.

Easy. Draft and FAcy. There are players that are younger and just as good.
            1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree
            2) Re-sign Tart, Hand (4m), Phillips (5m)
            3) Sign the ERFA's Williams, Patterson, and Vidal (3m).
            4) Sign free agents Cole Strange (OG-1.5 m), Whyatt Teller (OG-10m), Luke Fortner (OC-6.5m), Brunskill (OC-vet min) Leo Chenal (LB-5m), Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m), Cade Otten (TE-8m) Greg Dulcich (TE-3m), K'Lavon Chaisson (ED 9m), Myers (DT-7.8m), Alec Ingold (FB-6m), Hendrickson (ED-25m), Seumalo (OG-9m), AVT (OG). Either Greenard or Huff would be a good replacement. Hunter would be ideal but think he will cost to much.

Telesco handed out above-market contracts because he drafted so badly after the first round the overall quality of the roster was low. If he risked letting the top players leave, he knew the team wouldn't have any chance. But that left a top-heavy team, without depth, unable to withstand much in the way of injuries, especially to any of the top-level talent.

Hortiz may want to go a different way. And that could mean letting go of some top talent players, in order to have the money to sign mid and low tier free agents to build depth. And negotiating a little harder, to pay commensurate with the market, not above. And letting go of talented players who are not great fits for the new offense and defense we will be running with different coordinators than in years past. We will still have Justin Herbert for the foreseeable future. They need to build a better team around him than what we have had before.

It's time to trust the head coach and GM most of us were begging the Spanos to hire. Even if it means we lose a few players that some of us personally would prefer to see stay.

But if the team can get better -- if JH2 have a plan and execute the plan - see what happens. Again, I think Allen will be back - unless he wants the type of money, or more that Evans got. That is a pretty good comp for Allen. Have always thought an AAV of 16-18m makes sense at this time of his career.
Allen is def not worth the same or more then Mike.

feel like Mike is one of the most underrated WRs in the league.

Well there can be a very big difference between the two. For example suppose Allen agrees to cut his salary by lets say $10M. HIs current cap hit is
over $34M. But if he takes the pay cut the cap number becomes $24M. That's why it matters whether we talk cap or salary. You cannot change the
dead cap which is prorated money that in the case of Allen and the rest has already been paid, but must be accounted in the books (cap). But you can
change the salary if agreed upon.

ok, thanks. noted for the future. it was meant to be a "big picture" table. i am purposely staying out of the detail grinding going on in these threads until wednesday. my finger was barely able to hit "post reply" as it was (to post the table here).

Yep...like those very generous deals he gave to Pip and Vato...and JCJ...if Trader Joe follows past practice with the Ravens, we'll see a LOT of one year FA deals...with a FEW higher priced FA deals, but not for crazy money...

The gamble was to go All-In, win a championship, and sort out the cap later.
Mack's contract was cheap early and expensive later. The cut/trade was inevitable.
The bad news is that a championship turned into 5-12.
The good news is he had a great year and now has trade value.

The gamble that really turned sour was the JCJ contract. I'm sure they never planned on him being so bad/toxic that they would have cut him and eat the whole cap so early.

The Keenan/Mike contracts were meant to be a competition for an extension. The injury to Mike ended the competition. @approximately $20m over the cap, this uncomfortable situation disappears with one fell swoop. Mike's release saves $20m.
                          Protect the QB
                          Run the ball
                          Play great defense
