The Chargers can survive and prosper with Pip at RT (not that I wish that to be the case).

BTW. Pip had Becton and Bozeman on that right side to work with, maybe the worst center / RG combination in the history of the NFL, along with the worst OC / Oline coach combination in the history of football.
    * okay, maybe that is a bit exagerated .... nah!
The Bolts could get by with Pip at T, as long as we don't have any other injuries to the O-line starters...but Pip would need some chip help at times...also, McD's outside zone O might help Pip instead of the Gro Vanilla Oh-No O, where the opposing D line would just tee off on us time after time...

pip has always seemed ill suited for power gap, he doesnt bring power to the point of attack - maybe he’s better in zone

Seems to me Pipkins will be here until Burke hopefully develops into a quality swing tackle. I see no issue with that.

                OG's: Slaughter, Strange, Awosika, Penning
                OC: Biadasz
It leaves us thin @Center... but Slaughter could slide over if Biadasz gets hurt.
This means Alex Harkey and Logan Taylor are both getting cut...I'm not sure I buy this, I can see Harkey going to the practice squad but Logan Taylor would not clear waivers, he offers superb versatility that teams are looking for in a back up, has played everything except center...

I think if Penning cannot beat out Slaughter and Awosika for starting LG then he'll be traded as he and Pipkins are probably the only reserves that we have that other teams might give up a 6th or 7th round pick for

I think their could be some surprise trades as in we would be sending one maybe two O-line players to other teams during and after TC...

we have 17 guys, really 16 due to World being on a redshirt season, and you are probably right about them only carrying 9 on the active roster which means 7 guys will either be cut outright or traded for modest late late day 3 compensation...

I really wish the league would expand rosters. There are so many injuries during the year, even in a good year. Who wants to watch street free agents play? And even if the stars stay healthy, injuries and low level replacements in positions like oline significantly reduce the effectiveness of those stars, and the ability of those stars to STAY healthy . . . . . .

Seems like allowing expansion of the roster (and game day rosters) by 5 or so players could really improve the quality of the product overall.

After last year, I’d be inclined to carry 10. Would have to evaluate who Mr #54 non-OL is that would have to be cut and hoped to put on the PS though -

I just listened to the OL review on Chargers.com again. I'm not inclined to make any hard choices ahead of training camp and preseason. We have a lot of talent, depth and potential. I know that Hortiz is and was aware of the potential surplus and has a flexible plan for final OL depending on how the O linemen do between reporting to TC and cut time.
My current guess is 9 OL for the reason you mention. I'd prefer 8.

when they lengthened the season a 2-3 man roster expansion should've been negotiated up front by the union, the practice squad is too fluid and you can't protect guys on the practice squad properly, if another team wants a guy they can basically get him even if you put a protection tag on him, there is a 48 hour window at the beginning of the week where anyone on the practice squad can be poached...

just 3 more bodies would make a huge difference...

I suppose it's a good problem to have, some solid players are going to be cut and it wouldn't surprise me if we get 1-2 guys poached before we can establish our practice squad...
