Hortiz will go down as either a genius whose shrewd moves on the OL paid off, or a fool who failed to address the OL 3 years in a row.
Hope he chooses wisely. I’m willing to let the draft and the rest of free agency/trades/surprise cuts play out, but I don’t know if I can support him moving forward if our IOL is in shambles for a third straight year.ESPN Screename: GoBolts02

The HIGHEST PICK Hortiz ever had as Charger GM was used on an offensive tackle, Joe Alt.Originally posted by Boltx View PostHortiz will go down as either a genius whose shrewd moves on the OL paid off, or a fool who failed to address the OL 3 years in a row.

Last year, the Chargers were poised to start the season with 2 all pro Tackles, LG who just signed a $16.5M AAV, SB RG $10M AAV, and 2 Centers competing to upgrade 2024 performance.
I don’t call that “failure” whatsoever. Too me, it was a combo of the worst OL injury luck in history and not enough cap left to position the OL any better.
NOW….having said that, going forward, Hortiz has the team setup for failure. On the DEFCON scale of 1-5…..we are at 2, similar to the Cuban missle crisis.

When I think of the Riverwalk poster...It's a bit different. I've become more than a bit disdainful of your errant "missile" posts and your repeated "crisis" narratives. But Hey, maybe I've misjudged. Maybe you'll adjust. Above all: I'll let you...do you.Last edited by YAC; 03-19-2026, 09:46 PM.

The great thing about professional sports is that you can’t hide your performance. Front office, coaches, players.
We all get to see the finished product. So Joe Hortiz has a great opportunity to show that he can build a complete winner. And if not, oh well, he gets to be a footnote in a long line of other ineffective Charger GMs and the search continues. It’s a win/win as far as I’m concerned.ESPN Screename: GoBolts02

He has an OC 2x better than he had last season plus better draft candidates this year so let's hope common sense prevails. Defense wasn't a problem last year and I don't see defense a problem this year so improving your oline 100 percent rather than improving your defense 5 percent is the main story here.Originally posted by Boltx View PostThe great thing about professional sports is that you can’t hide your performance. This is true. And yes, I complain about the process, guilty -- but I also say, end of the day, sports has results. Either the process works or it doesnt. Like when they talked about Telesco and why he was so good - they would mention this draft pick or that pick or whatever - I just looked at division titles and playoff wins -- he sucked as a GM. Bottom 3 over his 11 years with the Chargers.
And if this team fails again because of a lackluster IOL - and by failing, I mean one and done in the playoffs or not making the playoffs, he should be fired. When you have the cap space he has had for two years
Now I hope he proves me wrong.

Yes, if the Charger board has a WTF experience after this years draft concerning improvements on offense yes his arse would be on the hotseat.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post

Joe and Jim are a tandem who will either succeed or fail (to deliver) together. I don't foresee Hortiz getting canned and Harbaugh remaining, therefore I do not expect a GM firing at the end of the 3rd year even in the unlikely case that the team tanks. Now, is it possible for the Chargers to end up in the cellar of AFCW? Yes, sure, as it is also possible for Denver or KC to end up in the cellar, because we all know what exactly will cause those catastrophic scenarios without jinxing it for ourselves. Now if that should happen, specially early in the season because the OL did not protect causing the most important piece to be knocked off the board, we'll have a mutiny on our hands!Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post

If Herbert is hit or sacked repeatedly every game because we didn't sign FA G SoandSo, I'll be shocked. Absolutely shocked.
We currently have top 10 OTs and C, top blocking TE and FB, a widely respected OC playcaller and his choice OG Cole Strange and 5 draft picks TBD. We're so much better at O blocking today, I can't imagine being anything like last year regards the abuse Herbert will experience.

I agree with all that but the starting OGs as it stands today are a major question mark.Originally posted by sonorajim View PostIf Herbert is hit or sacked repeatedly every game because we didn't sign FA G SoandSo, I'll be shocked. Absolutely shocked.

Luckily the season doesn’t start today, and there is ample time to address this. If we can hit on one rookie OG who can contribute right away, we should be in pretty good shape. Very good shape, even.
We also need some luck on our side, re: health.ESPN Screename: GoBolts02

Nope, it isnt going to happen. They both will get the 5 years they signed for. If we dont get deep into the playoffs during that time, maybe we can have that conversation but it sure beats not making the playoffs. Telesco was a shit GM. Sure he made some good picks in round 1, Keenan round 3 but he never made another good round 3 pick......well Henley was a 3rd but Staley thought Murray was better lol...who again, was another bad pick by Telesco. Telescos very first pick was Fluker.....that was a tell sign.Originally posted by Factotum View Post

Didnt keep any on second contracts, made only 1 trade for Mack in 11 years, never traded down in the draft, only up for players that had no impact and losing picks,..... picked up roadkill during the season who were just stashed on the PS.
Ill take whats going on now to that anytime. I think we can win the division this year. Denver wont get the breaks they got last year and KC is still down imo. Raiders wont be very relevent this year.
But we will see
