Not sure why I keep saying this. You just want to complain and so, you will. I bet we could be 10-1 and you would be saying the same thing
Oh, back to the old “you don’t agree with me therefore you’re complaining” routine. I saw this routine from you at the beginning of the season when I said Roman was a bad hire because his offense doesn’t work in the nfl anymore. I also heard it when I said we couldn’t compete with a gutted offense with no weapons. I also heard it when I said Horriz and Harbaugh picked the wrong player to get rid of Allen over Bosa.

Its a tired argument, just take your L, admit that this team is not ready to compete with the big dogs, Roman is an antique and the NFL has caught up to him and that our offense is gutted and has no weapons while our vaunted dline doesn’t need glass Bosa.

Your rose colored glasses have cracks in them and you can’t hide them with toxic positivity anymore. The proof is on the field and everyone can see it.

You kind of contradict yourself. If we don’t have the dogs to compete with a gutted offense, how can you possibly know how Roman’s offense won’t work? Imagine the Monday game if the teams swapped receivers, TEs and running backs for the game. We win that game by double digits.

As for Kelce, his yards per game is down from last season. His TD per game is also down from last season. He could have a billion little catches and who cares? He isn't what he was. He's declining, as he did last season. And, yet, they still have a good offense.

To your point, the Chiefs have more to work with. Agreed. But Roman ain't the guy (all these years after the 49ers original success) to elevate mediocrity. You think he is. Okay.
He's not his peak HOF level, but he's better than any TE on our team. Their offense is not great. Their offense is merely good, #14 in ypg. their defense is the stronger unit, #4 in ypga.

We all need to settle in to the expectation that Greg will be OC next year - and wait to see what further roster improvements can do for/with him.

I think it's pretty clear that Roman isn't a great OC. There are problems on the offense and I think it's fair to say a step back could have been expected. But when you compare him to Minter, you can see what a great coach can do with worse talent available to him.

Minter has taken a bunch of cast-offs, busts, and late round draft picks and turned them into a great unit. This defense was crap the last 4-5 years and he's already turned it into a top 10 unit. Coming into the season the only group that was a strength was the edge group. The DT group was a huge question mark, the LBs were suspect, the safety depth was non existent. ASJ was the number one CB and it was unclear who was behind him and even how good he would be. The defense has sustained injuries and still is playing great on 90% of drives with only the occasional let down.

Roman took over a unit that has been very good to elite over the last 4 years. They have a top 5 QB. They lost their top 2 WR options and their RB, so a little dropoff could be expected. But they used their top 2 draft picks on the offense. They have 3 first round picks in their prime on the OL and 2 guys who were serviceable in the very recent past in Pipkins and Salyer. This offense started out from a much higher position than the defense. I like the improvement he's gotten out of Johnston, but it's nothing compared to the leap Henley has made. In contrast with the defense the offense is pretty bad, 3 and outs, very often and occasionally sustains a drive.

Guys like Minter are hard to find. So being worse than Minter isn't necessarily and indictment of Roman. But I think it's safe to say he's not in the OC class of Shannahan, McVay, Monken, Johnson, McDaniel, etc.

Not at all. Ive said Roman wasnt my first choice and of all the coaching hires, he was my least favorite but he is who JH hired, has had success with him, went to playoffs and a SB with him so thats who we got. That guy complains even when we win. Even when every week we are scoring more and more, opening up the offense when Herbert felt better and cold move around.... he complains. If you cant see that then i dont know what to tell you.
I am just going with the fact they have won....a lot with each other. You may not the exciting playcalls but if they work, who the fuck cares! We need a couple more OL pieces , a WR and a TE....but its working better with what we have though we have been getting better.

This is the worst team we will have under Harbaugh and Hortiz. Im sure bayareaboltz will complain about Roman every year we are in the playoffs and even if we make a SB. Thats more than any other HC and OC we have had except for Boss Ross and whoever his OC was....i forget.

I know you said this is a 3 year build. Maybe you are right, though not sure the meaning of it. To make a SB or playoffs? Because we can make the playoffs this year and thats pretty good considering we sucked ass with Staley and his OC choices and......................Moore was suppose to be a innovative OC and he was terrible. Our OL was terrible, his playcalling was terrible but, ....we had a shit OL with Telescos god awful depth he always had for us.

Is funny how this place implodes when we lose a game lol, holy fuck!

I love Minter as our DC and think he is great. he is miles better than Staley, love what he has done with these players...but..just for some perspective...was everyone a little premature calling his defense great?

57 points against the last 2 games when they are finally facing top level QBs. Much improved...good...sure, but maybe not great

We can debate about whether it's a good defense or a great defense all day. It doesn't really matter. It's miles ahead of where it was. If Roman's offense was close to Menter's defense, this team would be battling the Chiefs for the division and would be the better overall team, IMO.

Let's also keep in mind that this defense has been without Hart and Mack for the past two weeks as well. If Slater and McConkey were out against two of the best three defenses in the NFL and the Bolts scored 25 on them each game, I would be pretty thrilled.

Exactly. Our D looked like monsters against losing teams and average to ehh against good offenses. Both sides of the ball have work to do.

Yes. I think its fair to point out that both Co-ordinators are working with talent defiencies. Hortiz did what he could, well over the cap, with cheap signings but both sides of the ball need talent infusions.

To be fair to Roman, he went into this season with what was graded the worst group of skill position players in the NFL.

Dobbins gets injured... QJ can't catch a pass... the interior oline is holier than a catholic priest... yet Roman is a bad OC because he can't go out on the field and execute the plays himself. Get some talent on the offense other than Herbert and then make this argument, it might make more sense. Right now people are complaining for the sake of complaining and need a scapegoat... Roman isn't going anywhere, especially since we are knocking on the door to a wildcard spot.

Am I that guy? Ha. Yay!

Ya, see, we all want wins. You. Me. We all crave wins. No one is complaining about the wins. Give us more, obviously.

But if you think a win means that "everything is great" and there is nothing to fix or clean-up or that there aren't problems, than you haven't been around sports. Or coaches. Or teams.

Yes, please win when you have problems. That's FAR superior to losing. But many on this site know that some of those wins, while they count in the standings (YAY!) are really just covering up that we're a paper dragon when it comes to playing the big boys. Which keeps being proven by our Chargers over the last few years. If Roman's offensive schemes can score more points over an upcoming team that's above .500, it might start to show legitimate signs of the hope so many on this site cling to.

PS If you hold to the "wins" theory of good, then Justin Herbert is not a great QB. But, hey, I think he is. And I'm guessing you do as well.
