I'd much rather have Boyd than MVS. Boyd is much more polished, accomplished WR. He's Keenan Allen light. Great route runner, gets open, good hands. The WR room needs a veteran like him, he's been a #1, he'd make a good mentor for this young WR corps. MVS is really inconsistent, kind of flaky. He played in 16 games for the Chiefs in 2023. Caught 21 of 42 passes - 50 percent - for 315 yds and 1 TD. This catching passes from Mahomes! The Chiefs couldn't wait to move on from him. His career catch percentage is 50.3 percent. Boyd's career catch percentage is 68.4 percent. He had two 1000+ yard seasons as Dalton's #1 before Tee Higgins arrived with Burrow in 2020. In the past four seasons he's averaged 775 yds receiving, even with Higgins and Chase ahead of him. The only promise MVS has is his speed, but he's not on Boyd's level as a WR by any means. I really don't want a veteran WR with a 50% career catch rate, I don't think Harbaugh does either.

if Palmer stays healthy, he can pile up numbers. he has been quietly improving each year.

McConkey is quicker/faster than Allen, a true threat to take it to the house any time he has the ball in his hands. Also a better blocker right off (he’s a giver lol).

We seem to be building a play-action passing attack, which can also go deep very, very quickly in 4 WR sets. Both Lombo and Moore seemed to favor long-developing big yardage passing games, I get that with the WRs we had but not with the OL. YAC was not a thing, but I think it will be everything in Roman’s passing attack: at minimum you get a first down or close to it; at maximum, TD.
McC is not an Allen replacement. He’s a Darius Davis replacement even though we still have Darius Davis. He’s a smaller fast reciever who excels on deep balls but has an issue with drops. He’s a put or kick return guy who is a hybrid player. Can play the slot can play the outside but doesn’t excel at any. He’s not KA, not even close. It’s going to be interesting to see how the wr room pans out because right now it’s still looking pretty thin.

His career catch percentage in college was 75.3%. That doesn't sound like a WR who had an issue with drops. And he was catching balls from inferior QBs.

The Chargers traded up in Round 2 of the NFL Draft to select Georgia WR Ladd McConkey 34th overall. McConkey’s raw college production doesn’t jump off the page. He never reached 60 catches or 800 yards in a season. But he played in a run-leaning Georgia offense and had to battle TE Brock Bowers (among others) for targets. McConkey was super efficient, leaving school with career 75.3% catch rate and 2.54 yards per route. His career-best 3.26 yards per route last year ranked eighth among 409 WRs with 35+ targets. McConkey is devastatingly quick and a polished route runner, making him one of the best separators in this WR class. And he’s a weapon after the catch, with a career 0.25 missed tackles forced per catch – a better rate than guys like Marvin Harrison Jr. and Rome Odunze. McConkey boosted his stock at the Combine with a 4.39-second 40 time and 9.34 Relative Athletic Score. The 6’0, 186-pounder can play both outside and in the slot. He might not big a big-play producer or high-TD-rate receiver at the next level, but McConkey has the potential to rack up a bunch of receptions. Going to the Chargers presents immediate opportunity. The WR corps shed Mike Williams and Keenan Allen this offseason, leaving Josh Palmer and Quentin Johnston as the top returning players. The landing spot helps McConkey's fantasy outlook. Check out our rookie rankings to see where he lands.

McConkey takes the pressure off Palmer and QJ and should also open things up a bit for them.

I was referencing Davis but McC has his own issues. He’s very similar to Davis with better hands but worse YAC. He seems to have issues transitioning from catching to running. But either way they both fill the same role, small fast WRs who play in the slot well. Maybe McC can play the outside but he’s a natural slot guy.

QJ needs to step up this year because Palmer is gone after his year. If QJ figures it out then maybe we’re in solid shape. Since we’re going for a run first play action offense we need a big play blazing player to keep safety’s honest. Maybe that’s QJ but we really need more speed to threaten the home run every play. Maybe that’s McC but based on his size and profile I doubt he can beat big physical corners on the outside.
