He's gotten beaten up over the years. I'm not betting against him, but I wouldn't say he's in his prime, so I'm also not betting on him to make the team.

I didn't know you could even put a tender on a UFA...but the Bolts did it with Dobbins. Here's how it works:

"What is a UFA tender in the NFL?

Similar to a franchise tag, a UFA tender can be placed on a pending unrestricted free agent. When the tender is applied, a player has until a certain day to sign with a team before his negotiating rights become owned exclusively by his former team.

In Dobbins' case, the running back has until July 22 to sign with a team, and he would count towards the Chargers' compensatory draft formula for the 2026 draft. If he does not sign with another team before that date, Los Angeles then holds his exclusive negotiating rights.

Why did the Chargers apply UFA tender to J.K. Dobbins?

It's not totally clear why the Chargers decided to use the UFA tender on Dobbins, but it is definitely a favorable situation for the team.

Dobbins, who is an unrestricted free agent, now has until July to sign with a team before Los Angeles retains his exclusive negotiating rights. If he signs with a team prior to their training camp opening, he will count towards the cap for that team, and the Chargers will get a compensatory draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The running back was an important piece of head coach Jim Harbaugh's offense last year, and there seems to still be interest in bringing him back next season. However, if Dobbins signs with a different team before training camp begins, the Chargers will still receive a compensatory draft pick."

The running back can sign with any team until training camps open in July, but Los Angeles will retain his exclusive negotiating rights after that.

but remember.... 40 yard times dont mean everything.... Golden ran a crazy fast 40 but it does not show up on field.... Jerry Rice ran really slow 40..... but neve got caught from behind in NFL.... lol

Lets just see how the players play.... maybe he cant get open in NFL... but maybe he is like Gates and others and just finds ways to get open???
I only replied to someone saying he was the same speed as McMillin. Had nothing to do more than that and of course a 40 isn't everything. We have 2-3 X receivers now, maybe 4 so no idea if they would have any plans to use him there.

Folks talk about him like heโ€™s 225. I donโ€™t get it. Loveland 245lb. Gadsden 243lb. Heโ€™s not a flyweight like Smartt.

All you have to do is watch his tape and itโ€™s obvious heโ€™s not a small guy. They will get him blocking enough so they can use him either in-line tight or close to the OT in a narrow slot. They will get matchups against LBs and it will be a nightmare โ€ฆ for the defenders.

then theyโ€™ll send him out wide and bring two WRs into slots, one motioning โ€ฆ and now DBs and LBs are all WTF should we do, should the DBs all run into the middle and LBs run out to the sideline or are we really gonna let WRs shred our Lbs on underneath passes.

THEN - they say fuck this and bring their safeties up to help their LBs. PEWWW โ€ฆ Ladd and KLS streaking behind the secondary for herbabombs!

Then they drop them further back and BAM โ€ฆ they get hit with the Double-H hammer in the backfield โ€ฆ thing of beauty, it shall be!

That is โ€ฆ Just as long as we have a RG and OC โ€ฆ

Well, we have the RG in Becton...and as u point out OC still a question mark...as is Zion...hopefully he and James work out...

I think James runs away with the starting C position IMO. Who knows, he could elevate Zionโ€™s game. I hear a lot complaining about drafting a G late. LG is Zionโ€™s to lose and they upgraded C and RG. To have Boze as your backup LG and C, is a good problem to have. You also have Salyer and now Taylor. Pip will be the swing. That is the one position on the Oline I can see them bringing in, OT to compete with Pip.
