IMHO, they have gotten more talented on the offensive side of the ball. For me, the defense is a "?". On paper it looks like they may have gotten more talented but we have to wait and see how they play. They brought in a lot of new players on defense. We just have to wait and see how it plays out.
They have a responsibility to take themselves off, true. Having done so some bench time would be well received.
That didn't happen a majority of the time.
Make more scoring drives and D will improve.

I do think Herbert can rush for 400-500 yards, that’s what Tyrod Taylor rushed for. This is the year for Roman and Devlin to put up or shut up. They have weapons they need now.

Is that true or are you just guessing?
Is there data that says a QB is less likely to get hurt by staying in the pocket?
I'm willing to bet QB injuries are more common behind the LOS than anywhere else.
Herbert would be a good example to look at.

I think my opinion may be more accurately stated as when the O struggled with TOP, it placed a greater burden on the defense.
I support the run game for improved TOP and giving the D an additional. edge.

We were close to avg at yds allowed rushing or passing but vs scoring we were monsters. Points being the deciding factor in games, we were very good overall.
We have a number of new personnel and a tougher rated schedule. So, it'll be different.
I look forward to Minter's answer. IMO we'll be good. How good is the question. I'm thinking top 10 (or better)at points allowed. Colson's improvement could be a huge factor.Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Many are sour about the play of Zion and Bozeman with good reason, but few can argue that these two are better than average run blockers. Last year there were way too many negatives, 0, or 1 yard run gains in early downs, which works against Roman’s offensive philosophy.
That’s where Najee Harris comes in, who I believe was a big signing, along with drafting Omarion. There will be many more favorable gains on early downs, which will create many more options to keep drives alive and / or allow for more favorable play action plays.
All three inner OL will need to be in favorable downs and distance to discourage stunts, which if not timed correctly by opponents, can be used against them with a solid and consistent running game.

I like the draft picks spent on Caldwell and Kennard. I think they'll be solid players in a rotation once they get used to the NFL level. Tuli looks like he can be an eight-to-ten sack guy during his prime years. What the defensive line seems to lack is an elite player in his prime. That's really the only concern I have for the defense. I don't think it will prevent us from making the playoffs. I wonder if it will be a key factor that will keep us from going deep in the playoffs, though.
Houston has Will Anderson. Kansas City has Chris Jones. Buffalo has Ed Oliver, who hasn't received the recognition but has played at an elite level at times. Baltimore has Nnamdi Madubuike. The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles are loaded with talent on the defensive line. I would like to see one of our guys on the defensive line play his way into that category this season.
