Is there data that says a QB is less likely to get hurt by staying in the pocket?

I'm willing to bet QB injuries are more common behind the LOS than anywhere else.

Herbert would be a good example to look at.
Yes I’m guessing and yes it’s true. QB injury in the pocket is more common because QBs stay behind the LOS 90%+ of the time. it’s not risk free anywhere on the field. it’s my guess based on lifetime observations - running QBs get hurt more than non-running QBs. But if only 10% - 20% of QBs are running QBs, in total we see more non-running QBs hurt. Someone can go get data, I’d go 3 taco platters on this bet. IF QBs didn’t get hurt more often, and being in the pocket was actually more dangerous, all OCs would have QBs run out of that pocket more.

It’s like the stat that most car accidents occur with 5 or 10 miles of home. Thats not because roads closest to home are more dangerous - it’s because that’s where you drive most of the time. More injuries happen in the home than anywhere outside the home for the same reason - you’re at home more. Its not because inside your house is more dangerous than outside. RATE is everything.

3 taco platter confidence that no one will have proof I’m wrong.

I’ll note the slide rule reduces risk of QBs running, IF they slide.
“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

I like the draft picks spent on Caldwell and Kennard. I think they'll be solid players in a rotation once they get used to the NFL level. Tuli looks like he can be an eight-to-ten sack guy during his prime years. What the defensive line seems to lack is an elite player in his prime. That's really the only concern I have for the defense. I don't think it will prevent us from making the playoffs. I wonder if it will be a key factor that will keep us from going deep in the playoffs, though.

Houston has Will Anderson. Kansas City has Chris Jones. Buffalo has Ed Oliver, who hasn't received the recognition but has played at an elite level at times. Baltimore has Nnamdi Madubuike. The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles are loaded with talent on the defensive line. I would like to see one of our guys on the defensive line play his way into that category this season.
They can't have Mack play as much as they had him play the last two seasons.
But I do think Mack is one of those genes guy.

Kennard is important: will he contribute a lot, or be an automatic scratch on Sunday's?
That's putting a lot on a 4rth round picks shoulders: but he's mature.

I think my opinion may be more accurately stated as when the O struggled with TOP, it placed a greater burden on the defense.
I support the run game for improved TOP and giving the D an additional. edge.
It seemed like when we hit our offensive lulls in some games, we had several really short drives stacked in a row and that put pressure on the D try and regain momentum. They were not always able to. I think the upgrade in talent and depth at WR, RB and TE will help get rid of some of those stacked 3 and outs. Let's be real, we had McConkey, Edwards (before he got hurt) and occasionally Dissley as the guys who could make a play on a crucial 3rd down. We will have many more options this year and if we get better play at LG and C, we'll be really hard to defend - which of course helps out the D.

Tito is one I'd like to see step up. Big guy, major athlete. Injuries have been the problem. The potential is there if he can stay healthy.
Which is mainly what we have on DL I like Tart but the rest have yet to step up. There is obvious potential and little else.
We could be good. Maybe not.

I would agree with this too....and if healthy, I expect Sanders to be ahead of vidal due to bigger size, power, speed and playing in SEC.....

I expect and hope Kennard plays alot .....he may not start because he is not big enough to handle the pounding of running game, but his explosive speed makes him our best pass rusher.... he was top pass rusher in SEC playing against the top OL in draft.... our pass rush was too slow last year and showed in that Texans loss when that Texan snap was loose and nop Chargers could get to the ball or the QB to keep him from getting ball and scrambling around to fling a deep bomb that got the most important first down of game..... kennard should be no worse than DE 3/designated pass rusher.....

If our defense can shut down run and our offense can actually score TD's consistely this season, Kennard will play alot.... if we were to suck at stopping the run, then he wont play very much.... no need for a pass rusher.... lol

Caldwell looks like he will be a run stuffing wall....with pass rush potential

Many wory about Ford being gone, but Pat Kirwin talked about him awhile back.... Kirwin said the reason Ford keeps moving around NFL even though he is a great effort guy, team player, etc.... he just is not big enough to be a wall that can shut down a running game... every team tries to get bigger.....

Chargers now are a team that knows that football is a big mans game and is why we want a giant OL and a giant DL, big powerful RB's, Big WR's.... big TE's.... etc.....big DB's....etc...

Popper was good with Money Smith

He is very high on Hampton and expects by week 2 or 3, fans will really like him

And again, the vertical passing game with Herbert is the key to his success. Using the run to keep the defense honest to open up down field. That is where Gadsden comes into play, of course Harris , KLS and Williams

All comes down to the OLine play.
