How much will he play in the preseason though? If he's a part of the first team or they are projecting him to play a significant role in the offense this season they will limit his snaps in the preseason like they are doing with Hampton.

Probably about as much as KLS is playing... As of right now KLS > Tre Harris

Just really hoping Tre Harris isn't another Palmer type WR. They have about the same speed ratio and are physically built very similar.

KLS got a lot more snaps than Harris did in the HOF game, and I think that is because they project him to be further down the depth chart than Harris.

KLS looks smoother and quicker to me.

KLS played A LOT more snaps?! Are you sure about that, I could be wrong, I'm getting conflicting reports that they both played about 24 snaps? Could you give me the official snap counts?

I liked what I saw from KLS as a receiver. But I didn't like what I saw from him as a blocker. He whiffed on Lions DB Rock Ya-Sin, who made that play on Hampton. If he can't block, his usefulness will be limited, like Jalen Guyton.

Can you find a snap count for the game? I can't.

A quick history lesson about young receviers.

Back in either 2000 or 2001, a young WR named Trevor Gaylor was having a GREAT camp for us. Started out catching EVERYTHING in sight. Was simply dominating. All the reports on a previous version of this site was that he clearly was the best WR in camp (we had Curtis Conway back then). He was not only going to start, but be a star. And then he started to fade a bit. By the end of camp he was still being a bit productive, but he never really made the step up.

His career stats as a Charger were 13 catches for 182 yds and a td one of his seasons, and 14 for 217 yds 0 td his next season. He played 1 more season for Atlanta (25/385yds and 3 td) and was out of football after that.

Malcolm Floyd was sort of similar in his time, before he finally got over the hump and turned into a good receiver, but it took him several years.

The point is that camp is long and it is about getting better and working to develop. It is about a body of work KLS, DD, Harris, Rice and the others all have a chance to make it, even it maybe not for the Chargers. But none is ready to wear a crown yet. And, since this is not fantasy football, if more than one of these guys develops to the point that they are good enough to play, then more than 1 guy should get to play. But none of them is done earning it yet.

You said KLS played a lot more snaps as a matter of fact what were you basing that on!

What was reported was they both played about 24 snaps. Don't know for sure.

Its early. Tre Harris got a late start due to hold out. He had his best practice yesterday.

KLS and Tre are different receivers, both bring great things to the table. Tre and Herbert are just starting to figure out their chemistry. Tre will be good on the boundary and with contested catches. No he isnt as fast as KLS, no Charger WR is, but Tre is smooth.

A lot of conclusions are being drawn from one play in the first pre season game. Conclusions about both KLS and Hampton. Patience.

What I remember about Trevor Gaylor is that he was a playmaker in practice against his teammates and friends, but in actual games against unfriendly opponents he wilted. That does happen with WR, super athletic playmakers in training camp and practice among their buddies, but against real competition where the defenders are trying to take their head off, they can't hack it.

Some WRs need to time to develop, M80 was an undrafted developmental project who needed time and ultimately did develop. Vincent Jackson was a 2nd round pick who didn't break out until his 4th season, then he became one of the most dominant WR in the game. Gives me hope for QJ.
